The coin is in an NGC holder because it is part of the D. Moore collection that is being
sold by Heritage. The D. Moore collection consists of over 500 quality world coins that
are all in NGC holders.

Is "D Moore" someone we should know? Is this related to Chuck's estate?

Whoever is handling this collection made a costly error by moving this coin to an NGC slab.
A PCGS holder for this coin is more relevant than a D. Moore pedigree.
The guy only had ten Canadian coins, I guarantee the OP's Canadian collection is more worthy of pedigree at auction than this Moore collection's Canadian coins.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

It is in an ms66+ NGC as opposed to just an ms66 from PCGS.

Probably not a great deal of difference in price.

A huge difference of money would be realized for this coin if it was in an ms66+ ICCS holder (if there was such a thing as a '+' for ICCS).

I think we can put this silly notion to rest that Canadian coins are just as valuable in a US TPG slab than if they were in an ICCS holder.

I will never understand dealers and some collectors who argue this.

To Me personally it is irrelevant which TPG has holdered/encapsulated a coin when I make a purchase.
The coin itself is what I concentrate on and I will make my own assessment of a coin before I buy it regardless of what grade is written on the slab/holder

trout1105....I totally agree.

But for those collectors who buy the holder (and there are many and some with deep pockets), ICCS is the way to go for Canadian coins.

I say buy the coin and the holder. To simply state that PCGS or ICCS is the way to build your
Canadian coin collection is absolutely absurd. There are a lot of factors that come into play
Some of these might include: What are your goals, Where do you live, What end of the pool
do you swim in, Are you building a Registry set? Are grading fees a concern? Do you want a
grading guarantee? Do you want computer access to populations reports and auction sale
information concerning your coins? Do you prefer one holder over the other? Etc.
Congratulations Devlec, DBM has put you in with some elite company. You have posted some
very nice coins in the past. The D Moore sale consists of 519 lots of which eleven are Canadian.
The presale estimate is 2.7-3.3 million.
I like the NGC 66+ 1934 fifty cent piece and its attractive toning. I can understand why it
is in an NGC holder. Any guesses on what the coin will sell for this time around?

I do not know how PCGS would grade this coin now but it was in a PCGS 66 holder
when it sold for $6,250 through Heritage in April of 2011.

That 34 has been sitting there without a bid for quite a while...so I'm in DBM's camp on this one. This coin was hurt by changing from PCGS to NGC..

My gut feeling is that it will sell for a lot less than the last time ...and that's too bad because it's still a very tough coin..

Are you sure that it's the same 34 from that previous Heritage sale of 2011..?..

Did Heritage add that previous sale info in this sale..?

Wow..!!...Definitely the same coin..and $6325.00..and then down a bit..and whatever else in shipping and/or duty or other taxes or charges added.. ..if leaving the US..

I will be watching this auction closely....but I have a bad feeling on this coin..and the change in TPG here.

__________

We also must remember that Canadian rarities don't carry anywhere near the same monetary punch as the other great non-Canadian coins in this auction..

A great collection of very tough coins when all is said and done..

Maybe the people who really really wanted it have already owned it. :)

That PCGS MS64 1947 PT7 quad HP dollar went for $4935 as well. I wasn't expecting that much.

So let me get this straight....

In 2010 and 2011 approx. $6300.00 in a PCGS holder.

In 2017, $4935.00 in an NGC holder.

I would really be interested in everyone's opinion what you would think an ICCS ms66 would sell for today.

I would venture to say that $6300 would be absolute rock bottom and most likely much higher than that.

Thereby proving once and for all for absolute value in a Canadian coin, it better be in an ICCS holder.
