I was going to pass on this one until I saw the reverse. I went ahead and ordered one of each. I might pick up another UNC towards the end of the year if the mintages are low.

I ordered one of the UNC coins yesterday. The reverse definitely has the potential to be something special.
I'm looking forward to receiving it!

Otay I received my notification from the mint in todays mail but after reading up on it I want to know if this is a commemorative issue. I don't think it is but someone may know something I don't! A commemorative coin and commemorative issue are not the same thing I believe.

Quote: I want to know if this is a commemorative issue. Yes, the Lions Club International Centennial coin is one of two Congressionally-authorized US commemorative programs for 2017. The second program will mark the Boys Town centennial.

I will have to wait to buy until after the coin show next month. I would hate to miss out on a good opportunity because I took a bite out of my budget.

The reverse looks great, but the obverse is terrible.

... so which side will folks display "up" in their albums?

The reverse is definitely the more artistic side of the coin, thought the obverse is fine IMO. I think the depiction of the lion family is something special and has the chance to extend this coin's popularity beyond just collectors of modern US commemorative coins. Quote: ... so which side will folks display "up" in their albums? The obverse, of course, lions are mostly nocturnal. I wouldn't want to disturb them with the constant glare of bright lights!
