David, what a great collection of Greek silver, and a wonderful series of vids. Your love for the coins and their history really come through. I can easily imagine a non-collector getting bit by the bug while watching these. Thanks for sharing.

And thanks also for the shout-out in the last vid!

David you have a fantastic collection. I can only dream of owning a collection like that. Congratulations. I love you carved chest, for many years I was a collector of Asian art. My area of interest was Japanese Swords and Woodblock prints. I had a few carved boxes that like you would store my goodies. Sadly they are all gone except for a few swords that I kept.

WowDavid,I've just got back from a trip so have just watched all the vids in sync...Great idea and I've really enjoyed it thank you. You've got some superb coins there

Just wondering how or why you chose the coins you've aquired ? As I seem to remember in some old posts that you had a few spaces left to fill so you must've had an idea of what you wanted...Did you pre-choose the coins or just went with the flow?Is there any kind of connection or you just liked how they looked?

Years ago my father in law lived and worked in Singapore and brought back a similar looking chest to
yours, although it didn't have metal feet, it was made of camphor wood a beautifully perfumed wood..is yours the same?

My favourite coin is the stater with the pegasus...beautiful looking coin!

Thanks for sharing and I'm looking forward to the other videos.

Saludos Paul

My chest is also Camphor, its from the 1920's and has carved wooden feet, I am not sure exactly where it originates from but I liked the carved designs.

Roman silver is a bit samey to me... I am just not really into Roman coinage so I limited myself on numbers. Most of my coins were chosen with some reason... a special interest in Thrace because I was backwards and forwards to Bulgaria for a while, my preference for iconic type coins...some chosen for aesthetics and others for some other significance.

There are one or two other coins I like, but I didn't want to open new pages. Collecting can be like a never ending sickness so I wanted a finite end to acquisition and filling this folder was that end. I also filled my British notes folder (video is in the world paper money section) and got most of the American notes I wanted (half a dozen more needed to complete that folder how I would like it)

My priority is on watches at the moment though...here I am almost done too, I am happy with 6 out of the 8 and just wanting to upgrade the Ebel to a Jaeger LeCoutre (MAster Calender Triple Date probably) and maybe upgrade the 1921 Longines too. This is not a quick process, anything good isn't cheap, especially as at this time of the year there isn't much work around.

Anyway two more video's to come here soon...

What's the diameter of the large Greek coin?
Having never seen one in person, I always assumed they ranged from tiny to medium-sized, but that one is huge!

And since you made me check the Greek coin category which I've never visited before, your videos may have the same effect on others

The Thasos Tetradrachm is 33mm, and the Alexander the Great one is just a tad smaller...

These were worth ten Drachms at the time, so were extremely valuable at the time.
