What's Going On With This 1921-P Peace Dollar?

The obverse looks weird, it looks like someone cleaned around the liberty head. Any idea what's up with this coin? It straight graded AU Report this Post to the Staff

srs77 Pillar of the Community United States 3244 Posts	Posted 07/02/2026 12:30 pm Only a guess but it looks like toning that got close to lady liberty but want able to get closer for some reason. Notice the toning is on lady liberty. My guess is whatever was causing the toning couldn't get into the high points on the obverse. Report this Post to the Staff

Brandmeister Pillar of the Community United States 6574 Posts	Posted Yesterday 1:37 pm On Jefferson nickels, it is not unusual for dies with heavy fatigue or PIDT to develop a sunken halo with a different texture immediately around the bust perimeter.
