I am not sure if it is a proof, but it is one good looking 1964 nickel.

Can anyone else give me some Intel if this is a business or proof? New to this but have been doing hours if research here and I'm still unsure! Please, thank you!

The rims do not look sharp enough and the surface not mirrored enough. However, those deficiencies may be the result of banging around in circulation for a while, which is why I am not sure.

That is without a doubt an impaired proof nickel, not a business strike.

Quote: not an expert but that looks proof so full steps are expected and I would not get it graded And it is impaired. It is worth 50 cents, at most.

Where, oh where has that proof nickel been to get nicked up like that? At one time it was in a proof set. Did it get stolen and spent? Did a child take it and spend it? Did a collector just say phooey and spend it? Then you got it!

look at the rim under united state of America, you will see there is a slight MAD, I doubt this is a proof being misaligned, and the images are not frosty enough. I think its just an early strike.

Quote: the images are not frosty enough The vast majority of proof coins from the 1950s and 1960s are brilliant proofs, not cameo or deep cameo.

That's what I was thinking when I seen it in the roll! Someone's kid got at it and cashed it in! I also got a1957-d 1960-d that has less dings than this 64 in the same roll! But the only ding they have are on the steps#128546;#128546;#128546; . but thanks for the input guys.

For what it is worth, I trust Bio's opinion on this.

First: that coin would not straight grade. Second: That coin, misaligned die or not, does not look like a 1964 business strike. Third: as a collector of high grade proof Jefferson nickels to my eye that is an impaired proof. It is a VERY cool find, but has little value. Even so, I would keep it in my cabinet.
