Here in central VA I have been able to cash in boxes of coins. Recently I cashed in my box of searched half dollars. Sometimes they ask for my ID and phone number, I guess to contact me if the rolls are under.

I haven't had many problems with WF save for one rogue branch that charges CRH $5 to cash in coins... Just to spite them, I'm going to start bringing in like 9 rolls of cents for cash just to waste their time. This particular branch has a bad reputation according to WF employees I've talked to at other branches. Apparently the management at the other branches does not like the management team at that particular branch.

Beware the mark of the beast!
The attack on the use of cash is a trend that is gathering momentum around the World.
The official excuse for eliminating cash is so that drug dealers cannot be paid. I do not believe that. Our Government wants to discontinue the issue of the current highest denomination $100 note for the same reason. Drug dealers will continue in their business, without using cash.
Cash is the only way I pay for everything, even utility accounts. My bank is next door to the Post Office, which is where I pay my utility bills in cash.
The reason why I use cash only, is that this is the way I manage my weekly budget. I must have saved tens of thousands of dollars over my lifetime with the habit of cash budgeting.

Thankful that my Credit Union has a coin counter at no charge and don't have to roll them up. I don't trust Wells Fargo after the credit card scam

I bank with BAC. When I build up a large hoard of change, they give me plastic bags to dump it in. I deposit them at my local branch and a week later the funds hit my account.

Unlike cash, electronic payments are traceable and can easily be recorded. Someone mentioned Orwell's 1984. I cannot believe we live in a day where banks are supposed to report transactions over a certain amount. I understand it might help catch some criminal at some time, but my money SHOULD be only my OWN business and not that of a government nanny. Had the powers that be tried this in my grandparent's day, the authorities would have been labeled/deported as communists. Thankfully (?) I don't have to worry about money in those amounts ever being in my hands though

A few years ago, having bought a big bunch of (mostly) 10 kopek coins for far below face value somewhere (don't recall the specific details), I tried to cash them in at a bank. I was then told the fees... about $2 flat plus a few percent of the amount. With the bag I had (something like three pounds of coins), I would've actually ended up owing them a bit of extra money.
I saved the coins, obviously; gave out a few dozen of them to the kindergarten where my mom worked at the time (there were surprisingly many uses for cheap shiny objects), gave a few dozen more to assorted relatives to spend, tried to spend some myself. I think I still have most of that bag, though (and now it's even harder to spend those).

Basically, when you do that, you're letting them sit on your money for a week to 10 days. One of the main reasons I closed my BofA account. The maximum most will take at one time (without holding them for 7-10 days) is $50. No thank you. I can go to my US Bank branches when it is slow and go to the counter where me and one of the tellers will help me fill a bag with pre-rolled coins which we unwrap and pour into the bag. Usually takes no more than 10-15 minutes or so. I get the money right away instead of waiting. At Chase, as long as you're at $100 or less, you can usually cash in your rolled coins on the spot. Any more than that and they will require ID. Most of my Wells branches are fine with you bringing in as much pre-rolled change as you want - the exception being that one branch I mentioned earlier.

Been paying most of our bills online now for well over 15 years without a single glitch. All of them are now paid online and the wife and I are strict budgeters and big savers and if warren buffet still believes in wells fargo then so too will i. Don't get me wrong the scandal was horrible but it was rogue managers putting unwarranted pressure on employees, the problem has been dealt with.

I left WF several years ago because they didn't have a local branch. I was in a small local bank the other day and asked about a box of pennies. They wanted to charge a $4.50 surcharge. The teller said they are charged $.09 per roll from the FED and passed that to the customer. I have never heard that. I got a box from another bank on Friday. It wasn't new though. Still fun searching.....

But to each their own. If you want to use cash, use cash. It's funny, everyone's different. I still like to use the old fashioned methods whenever possible. I find it's easier for me to keep track of things when I do payments myself instead of automatic ones.

I would hate to have to write a check (I have not written one since 2005 or so) or go somewhere to pay a bill. I track everything in a spreadsheet and know what is going to happen when. Payment dates are fixed and set to have e-mail confirmation. I honestly do not know how I could ever go back to the old way. We seem to be getting a little off-topic, but the truth is that handling money is expensive and electronic automation is becoming the rule, not the exception. At some point there will no longer be a choice. It may not affect us, but I expect the children of millennials to be completely cash free.
