I see residue from on old dip on both sides.

I would start the technical grade at AU58, but there are some issues:

1. Scratches on face and neck of liberty which are on the most prominent device on the obverse.
2. Weak strike is apparent from the reverse shield where the vertical stripes on the shield are almost gone. Don't know if this is due to a weak strike, wear or both.

Net 53 or 55 here.

Slight wear on the high points, I'm saying AU-58 but I'm questionable on the surfaces, I kind of suspect that it has been cleaned before.

Thank you guys for grading. Here it is. Just curious, where is the residue that shows a dip? This coin really had me as original surfaces. Thanks!

The purple looking toning at the bottom of both sides is synonymous with dip residue that wasn't completely rinsed off. Over time, that residue starts oxidizing and attacking the metal.

My guess is NGC overlooked it or determined it was something else. If the residue keeps getting darker and darker over time then you'll know for sure what it is.

Perhaps you are correct, and I respect your opinions for sure.

For now, I basically agree with 58, but not a PQ example.
