Mail in Canada is bloody expensive compared to U.S.....
Another person that I have met off of this site wants me to ship them some rolls because I live right next to the mint.... it would cost just over $17 to ship one roll of each denomination.... (.05, .10, .25, .50, 1.00 & 2.00 rolls) So instead I'm just holding onto the rolls for the person... perhaps collect 2-3 years for them... I coach on the side and one great thing is that we sometimes travel for tournaments... .if in 2-3 years I haven't traveled to their location I'll ship it... just to save on shipping!!)
Ohh and for even a letter sized "tracking" it cost $12... Moncollector's coin sold for $1... who's going to pay $12 shipping for a $1 coin... conversely if I sold items that were only going to sell for one dollar but paid $12 for the shipping I'd lose money fast... Guess I'm just going to hope that I deal with a lot of good people.... so far.. the one transaction I've had was very positive and I'm going to keep on.... (probably give a lil gift as well to each new buyer ... that seemed to go over well!)

Ohh my coins aren't worth that much at all.... More like a buck or two here and there..... I've heard others say that 1 out of 100 or so claims they don't receive their package or tries some scheme.... so hopefully all will be good! It's pretty pointless to use tracking on your kind of stuff as you'll just lose a lot of money... Best thing to do is make your own TERMS and CONDITIONS which are over and above eBays and put them on every listing. Also, make it clear that you're not responsible for your items once they've left your home (or you can do as I do and offer a 50% refund if it does get lost by the USPS). It's a whole lot better than dealing with the stupid CLAIMS crap. I've had no problems since I started putting my own Ts and Cs on my items six months ago - other than one who was impatient and filed a claim on me 8 days (and actually 7 days since there was a Federal holiday in there) after they bought the item. Before I put my terms in, I was having issues with around one in every 100 buyers.

So ... to continue on this journey.... what an exciting night!! Some people got some GREAT DEALS in my opinion, and it was fun to see the bids starting to come in and things were getting sold. This morning When I looked I had a total of 24 listings with only 5 that had the minimum bid on them. I'm not going to lie I was using my wife's smart phone to check up on the auction all day today, as we took the kids out to the museum and then it was to my parents for dinner with "grandma and grumps"... At the end of the day 20 of the listings sold and some even had multiple bidders. I know MontCollector was one of the winners... if there is anyone else that won an item following this thread please send me a note on ebay I'll make sure you get a little extra "thank you" in your package! There was some previous people that posted they hadn't tried ebay yet.... My only advice is just give it a go! Today was really fun and beat the pants off of the bad day I had yesterday http://goccf.com/t/187379&whichpage=4) a link to explain... One person gave the advice that with more listings you may get more traffic as people will often be attracted to one item then look to see what other items you may have for sale... Taking this advice I think I'm going to spend any spare time I have writing up some listings and taking photos (never knew what an arduous task that was!) and hopefully by May 7th will try and put up 100 listings ! This was FUN! Thank you everyone for your input, feedback and support, it has really made this a positive experience!

Okay my next question on this quest... how and when does ebay take their fees... This past sunday all the people that won their auctions have already paid... and I will be shipping off all the materials later on tonight. But I want to know how to pay ebay, and how much I owe them..

AgCoinAu, yea ebay sends message and also if used PayPal will deduct the fees in your "account". If you're a first time seller like me, message said my remaining funds would be held for 21 days or until had 10 completed sales and favorable comments. Glad I'm not paying too much on shipping and selling a bunch or I'd have some cash flow problems. You shouldn't have that trouble if you had 20 completed sales, should only take a few days?

@Ag/Au: ebay will total your sales for the month, and send you an invoice midway through the following month. I believe I get mine on the fifteenth. On that date, ebay will automatically deduct money from the payment method you have set up. (Don't worry -- they're good at getting paid.) By default, they deducted from my bank account the first time around. I had to tinker with the settings a bit, and now they pull from my PayPal balance. Of course they want a back up payment method listed, and if your primary is declined or has insufficient funds, they'll still hunt down the cash.

John77, What terms and conditions would you suggest or what do you use and why ? Terms that protect you from rogue buyers since a large number of them abuse the "buyer protection program" and the CLAIMS process. A lot also depends on what kinds of items you're selling. If you're selling stuff that's more than say $20. then you're probably using postal methods which include tracking. In ebay's eyes, once a package is received by the buyer (regardless of whether or not the contents are received and/or in tact), the seller can't be held at fault... When cases are opened, ebay will look to the tracking of a package to make judgment... very dumb in my opinion as there's no way to tell if a person actually sent the items they said they did. This part of the buyer protection program actually hurts the buyers more than the sellers as the buyer is the one who is assumed guilty. Conversely, on packages sent without tracking, ebay assumes that the seller is automatically guilty if the buyer did not receive their item... If the buyer files a claim, ebay will almost always say the buyer is guilty... regardless of the fact that the seller did nothing wrong and has an excellent track record. For example, the other 499 people did business with this person had no problem receiving their item. The most important thing is to put terms that will cover you in your individual circumstance. For instance, all of my items advise I have a "no claims policy" and that "late fees" are charged for slow payers, and administrative fees" are charged to those who violate my terms. I also put in there that by buying my item, the buyer has entered a "legal and binding contract" with me. Legalese usually scares off the rogue buyers.

John77, I don't see how you can have a "no claims policy" or charge "late fees" through ebay. Claims are built into the ebay structure and late payments are allowed, even after an Unpaid Item Case has been opened. I assume that you do this solely to deter shady bidders but, I don't think there's any basis on ebay to defend either of those practices. In the end, a purchase on ebay is not a binding contract. I don't know but, you may be scaring off legitimate potential customers with "legalese." Edit: You can't have your own "policy" when selling on ebay. Everything is under the umbrella of ebay's policy and will be decided on that by them if and when a dispute arises.

I don't know but, you may be scaring off legitimate potential customers with "legalese." ebay actually states in their "terms and conditions of a listing" section the following: It's basically telling you to be sure you're good with the seller's terms before you buy something from them... this is how you get around the claims process. Charging late fees through ebay is actually very simple. You simply send a revised invoice with a note indicating that you've added a late fee to the original total. The one buyer who did get assessed a 10% late fee from me had no problem paying the new invoice as he knew he had agreed to those terms when purchasing my item. ebay doesn't protect sellers who do a lot of volume on low value items (i.e.: items without postal tracking), so this is really the only feasible way I can protect myself. And in fact, you do enter a legally binding contract with the buyer according to ebay's purchase conditions policy as outlined below: As for your fears about me "scaring away" potential buyers, I haven't skipped a beat. My monthly sales are averaging twice what they were before I implemented my terms and conditions last November... Also, I've noticed a 70% dropoff in the number of "lowball" offers I get. So the "right" people are getting scared off - and that's a GREAT thing!
