I understand, I just got frustrated and a little peeved.

It was my mistake for not checking the title length. It's happened before and I wish there was a way to go back without losing everything I just typed (I'm not too swift a typist).

Your browser being broken doesn't help either. Normal browser behavior is to preserve textareas on the back button. Chrome is the only one that doesn't.

So do I, and in fact I found it more reliable than IE for preserving textareas after crashes.

(Firefox, of course, is still better, but I don't have it on this computer.)

Maybe I should try Firefox for a bit. I had it a while back but that was before joining CCF. I don't know if I've seen it mentioned as far as compatibility but what about Opera? I've used that before as well.

Edit: Thank you John1 for the well wishes. I did retype it and posted.

FYI - I use FireFox almost exclusively. Only time I use IE is when I am logging in to servers at work that don't like FF.

I've used Pale Moon for quite a while , it's a more efficient quicker version of Firefox. That's why I first started using it, I've just stuck with it.

I was wondering about the long character requirement but guessed the reason was what you said. I like to have a decent idea what a thread is about without having to open it.

The text is preserved in Safari on iPad when you hit the back button (I tested it in the text forum).

Bobby, one option to fix this would be to use a Javascript alert box to catch titles too short before you post and leave the page. Not sure how much control you have over that part though or whether you want to get in the business of addressing bad browser behavior. Just a suggestion.

Any chance the text box can be stored in a cookie before the user submits?

I have put the last two suggestions on my todo list to look at.

I'll be brutally honest though, changing things that are only to appease broken browsers doesn't get high priority.

I almost always use my Android phone for posting. It tells me if my Topic Title is too short (red box until requirements are met).

There is already a JS validation that makes sure the title and post are not empty, I've sought some help to get a tweak for it.

Ok, unless you're using an old version of Chrome it should now choke on a title less than 20 characters without submitting the form.
