Your pictures are sufficient.

Hatfield, the pictures are fine. Soak it in acetone and see if it doesn't come off. Acetone will not harm the coin in any way. You wouldn't believe how many people swear nothing is on the coin then it comes off. Please don't think I am trying to ridicule you or anything. I am truly trying to help. Soak it in pure acetone, not nail polish remover. I bet anything it comes off.

Based on that image, it appears that someone gouged it with a sharp object.

I didn't pay attention to the image biochemist added. That looks like a plausible explanation also. Pictures are tricky anyway, but that very much looks like a trench in that image.

Almost looks like a retained internal die break. Why is the line on the right side of the face so dark in color?

One crack is deeper than the other. I will take better quality pictures tomorrow and get some acetone latter. It is a very interesting coin.

Just spit-ballin' here as I'm a pure amateur with this stuff...

It seems to me like both "cracks" are actually one long loop. They meet at the middle of the bottom of the bust and then connect around Washington's forehead, with one curling down his hair and the other following his eye. Is it possible that this is a gimungous lamination?

Hey Spence, I looked at some examples of laminations on coins and that's what it looks like. Thanks for the info.

I would like to thank all the members who answered my questions and for a follow up I did soak in acetone and distilled water for five minutes and it was glue or tape. Thanks again for all your wonderful knowledge. Here are the after acetone pics.
