First glance - gorgeous MS. I thought all the 58's were nuts.

Then I looked, and see the very slightest of rubs.

I myself love bullseye toning. The marks under the tone isn't as obvious, but there.

Bottom line, I'd still pay better than an average 58 for this one.

Man that's a tough call. It's a 58 I guess. Love it.

Is that toning real? If so, it turns out wonderful.

For the grading... tough call, also due to the toning. It looks like anywhere below a high AU and a low MS, so let's go for AU-58 then.

Yeah, I'll be the devils advocate here and say I don't really like the coin. Looks cleaned and retoned bullseye toning. Maybe a fingerprint on the left obverse. Sorry.

I'm not a big fan of toned coins, but I like the colors and bullseye toning. Nice coin Mike, AU-58.

I think the black background is deceiving. Imagine it without that background and you have some very dark, colorful toning it the rims and peripheries and very light, almost white, in the center. Combined with fingerprints on both sides this doesn't look natural to me.

Personally, I love the look..hope its natural album toning..i think this coin would be easy to sell. I see more contact marks than rub. Hate to not say MS, but AU-58

I am going to suggest Proof 62, or impaired Proof 58.

Can't see proof surfaces here.

The only reason I suggested Proof was that the rims appear to be correct for a proof strike and the strike is razor sharp in its execution, more so than a great many of the Uncirculated Liberty Seated halves I've seen. I am not familiar enough with the series and date to know die markers that might provide a definitive answer.

Otherwise, if this is a business strike (the majority definitely thinks so!) I will have to agree that this is either a really beautiful AU58 or even slides into MS62/63 territory. Many 19th c. proofs have been subjected to cleaning and and other surface disturbances, sometimes by the Treasury and Mint when still new, so the appearance of the surfaces is not always a reliable indicator of a proof or a business strike, nor can slight rub on such a beautiful coin be declared as a definitive indicator of circulation due to the fact that pieces that survive in this condition were often put away early in their lives and often have deep provenances (with the resultant associated cabinet wear and collector handling.)

This one was graded au-details-cleaned. I would have purchased it anyway but passed b/c it sold for $550. Beautiful coin that I could have resubmitted but I'm not going to spend 180 over cdn for a coin in a details holder.

Reverse makes me think AU-58 details, cleaned and retoned.
