Mark, you have a good question. You would think it would. I thought this is Struck Through, but Mike Diamond is not sure if it is a error or PMD. I am going to send it to him to look at it and see what he thinks. He is going to email me about the directions and guidelines. I don't think this is PMD, but I'm no expert. It would be pretty much impossible to replicate this void on my coin.

The truth is I'll never know until Mike Diamond takes a look at it. And yes, never say never.

Mark , when the ebay coin was struck , whatever had filled that void was struck right along with the rest of the coin. This actually transfers the image beyond the surface of the coin so if some of the surface metal peels away the struck image will show. This happened to my coin in the pic here

'IF' this void existed in the coin in question before the strike then there would have been nothing there to transfer the image.

I'll let everyone know what it is once Mike Diamond looks at it. Mike Diamond hasn't responded to my PM yet.

I agree with Stoneman, the void existed before the coin was struck. I also agree with Mark, there are ghosts and UFO's. A very interesting coin, Eand V. In my opinion a pr-strike planchet error. I think if the object was there at the time of the strike and the coat was affected, it would be strong. Nice pick up.

Looks like someone's been playing with the gravers and some nic-o-tone. I think this is post strike and not a planchet error. I just can't see how a gash that big would let ANY of the coin strike properly. First thing that is going to fill is the the BIG GASH. The 1/2 of a hole on the rim is just wrong. Looks like the Hobo nickel guys have been working copper. If you started with a fat planchet say at the max. 3.11 plus .13 ( allowed variance) then add another 10% just because and you now have a planchet that is around 3.3 this would not be out of the norm and I'm sure that leaves lots of room to carve. Also I think this coin has seen the wood press. The coats to flat with the wrong details. Same with the Memorial. The Doctor that worked this guy over looks to be pretty good.

I have the coin and have concluded that the indentation is due to post-strike damage. On my quickie scale the coin is slightly underweight at 3.0 grams (I was too lazy to haul out my analytical balance). Lincoln's coat and cheek are flattened, and, in the same location on the reverse, the surface is pushed up. I've already mentioned the flattening of the Memorial either side of the indentation. So what we have is a damaged/vandalized coin.

Thank you Mike Diamond for your answer. I had a feeling that something fishy happened to this coin. At least I got it for face value.

Oh well Mark. Thank god I got it for face value though. Who ever damaged the coin got very shady and made it look like a real error. Your package is on its way Mark. The mailman will pick it up tomorrow and it should be at your address by next week.
