1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar Please Let Me Know What You Think

Light by a half gram but very little visible circulation wear. I would suspect that this is not a genuine coin, and consider it to be of questionable authenticity. The rough pitting in the center of the obverse is somewhat diagnostic.

Opinions on authenticity will be all over the map with a coin like this. Might as well send it in for a quick third party grading/authenticity check by ANACS.

I would do a tissue test as well as an ice test next.

It's just so hard to tell from pictures alone on a coin like this.

1. Balance the coin flat on the tip of your finger over a blanket or towel, lest it falls.
2. Tap the edge gently with another coin, listening for ring tone.
3. Compare sound with a known genuine Half.

I still think she's the real deal. A trip to ANACS would reveal all.

I am not expert on these but I know a bit about forgeries and I don't see anything on your coin to indicate that it's a cast copy. The difference in weight however is far too excessive. I coin in this condition should be within .1g of the specified weight. That said, the scale you are using is very large. What is the capacity and accuracy of the scale? I have a feeling your scale is just not suitable for this purpose.

If this coin is indeed authentic, I have very little doubt that it is an MS coin, especially if luster is visible. Either way, I do think a trip to a TPG of your choice is warranted.
