Ok, I guess some type of contamination on the planchet caused the Linear Plating Bubbles?

Possibly plate splitting on the columns.

Anything left on the blank of zinc prior to plating and upsetting, whether it be a speck of dust or moisture, hair/lint...anything organic will begin the corrosive reaction once plating is applied. Zinc, copper and a catalyst is really a micro battery, like a car battery in miniature.

A lot going on with the first coin. But nothing to bring a premium. The mark on the 'T' on cent is Die Deterioration. Always towards th closest rim direction. The extra columns inside the bays are part of the design. The marks outside of the columns are either split plating or field reduction from a die polishing. Just events that happen during the striking process.

Hi, It's my first post on this web site. I have a 1992-D too! The distortion on the surface is more pronounced on mine but we have the same "cracks" in the copper layer revealing the zinc layer below. I ran across this forum/post while trying to do some research on this coin and only found the penny last week. Thanks, Dean

Linear plating bubble on the first cent/image. Not sure if this is one or more coins. (best to keep the coin count to one on a thread. It helps avoid confusion)

Cookie monster, My first post right after cop's post will be my coin and I have only one coin.
I jumped in because we both had 1992-D penny's with the same errors.
