When I used to buy more stuff from ebay it seemed like almost every auction billed "smoke-free home". Obviously, for a reason.

Quote: I collect books; when one shows up like that I am not pleased. Books tend not to lose their smell; but I bet coins will over time! I agree--took me over a year to knock down the cigar smell on a book that I bought. Of course, I had been looking for about five years to buy one, so I didn't mind the little extra wait. Now, several years later, I'd say that it is down to about a 2 on the 10-point fumare scale.

I had a really good laugh after I clicked on this post. I wasn't expecting a literally stinking coin! And Dave's picture is priceless.

I'm not sure how the surface cleaners will help as the smoke permeates the plastic and it will outgas over time. Find a dealer that uses NGC a lot and ask him to send your coin in with his for a $10 reholder.

Quote: Plain old Windex works just fine. DON'T spray the CAC sticker or the holograms on the reverse. DON'T spay on the seams of the slab either. If you hit a spot where the seam isn't sealed capillary action will draw the windex inside the slab. Spray a cloth and WIPE the edges of the slab.

I apparently panicked. The day after I received the slabbed coin in the mail, the smell was gone. Even the paper receipt is devoid of the tobacco smell. Either that, or at the age of 67 my olfactory senses are gone.

I hope you have gone nose blind. It probably had enough time to air out.
