Why cross it over? Is it really worth it? Well, I'll tell you. It's for purely selfish reasons. I'm working on a Dansco Washington album (32-64), all PCGS, ANACS or NGC graded coins. All MS61 or better (only one AU-58). I've taken pictures of all the coins in the slabs, broken them out, put the coins in the album, scotch tape the slabs bar-codes to the pictures and put the pictures in the back of the album. Bottom-line: I don't want an ICG graded coin in my collection. |

So you're going to cross it over just to crack it out?   Nothing wrong with an ICG coin. I own them. I mean, overall, they may not get the same resale value but, still, there are nice coins in their holders. Edited by chesterb

The thought (and sight) of the completed Dansco with MS61's or better with PCGS, NGC or ANACS slabs, is just to addictive at the moment. I have five coins ready to submit when the next ANACS special pops up. Quote:

ICG (and SEGS and PCI) were originally respected TPG's. In part they fell out of favor because of a lack of an online database. If that were my coin I'd crack it out and ship it to NGC or PCGS. It's got enough value that I would ignore ANACS. |

The coin looks like a solid MS piece. Your best chance for a PCGS 61 grade is to crack it and send raw. It could upgrade a point but you'll have to take the risk; a downgrade would be possible.

I wouldn't send it in to PCGS, just to crack it out for the label when it got returned. I have a few coins graded by ICG in my collection. I feel like they were fairly graded. It's a beauty! Now crack it out and get it in that Dansco!  |

Well, I don't know about that but I certainly appreciate the kind words. When I'm feeling good about my collection, I'm very apprehensive to log-on here to the forum. After I see some of the collections here, I'm inevitably knocked back into reality very quickly!  I'll keep you posted in the CAPS album. Thanks! |

Kanga - just to keep the record straight, PCI fell out of favor long before having an online database was an issue. They fell from grace with the gold box labels (later greens were far more market graded than early greens, but everybody was doing THAT dance). Then a couple bankruptcies, and being bought to be used as a fraudulent FPG in 2011/2012 sort of cemented the issue. Yes, they are 3 owners beyond THAT, but still... hard to get pee out of the carpet or your reputation. IMO, sell the coin as is and get one graded by a company you like. As you should know, there is something wrong with a quarter that looks that nice in an image yet is only graded MS-61. My bet is that it has continuous light hairlines (improperly cleaned) over its entire surface but is not bad enough to be "detailed" as cleaned.
