Exactly how did you find it, roll hunting?

Quote: Nice to see. I thought clips were a thing of the past. Congrats on the find. I thought of that too, but it still happens. It's just not very many of them actually escape from the U.S. Mint. Most of the time, they get caught and detected, then the U.S. Mint cancels them so they can get recycled. Definitely rare to see this error escape from the U.S. Mint.

I found it in a $50 bag of cents that I picked up from the bank on Saturday morning.

I didn't think incomplete planchets escaped the mint anymore. Nice find.

That's a rare sight, indeed. Very nice! I also agree that there is a small rim clip north of the larger one.

Nice! I will say that it is indeed double clipped, and exhibits the Blakesly effect.

Very nice double clip, incomplete planchet. The mint improved it's QC in 2000,so any error after 2000 that makes its way into circulation is rare. I think your find is a bit more than just rare. If I found it I would give it a quick dip in 100% pure acetone and put it in an Air-Tite capsule. John1

Thanks all. I was surprised to find it. I probably have a roll of the old copper cents with clips but not any from recent years. I have already put it in my folder of error coins. still Lookin

Is the outside edge of the coin normal at 11:00 on the obverse area? If it is normal, it is a double clip, but if the edge is indented, then it maybe a triple clip. The alignment for a triple clip would be in that area: So lets see the edge on that area...

When I look at the edge at the 11:00 position it is completely normal, smooth and shiny. There is only very little roughness at the small clip at the 2:00 position. Still Lookin
