Many things don't look correct about this coin. The first being the "3" in the date has a semi-pointed bottom loop. Coin looks very grainy & pockmarked. The seller has small pictures with no pictures of the full coin. I have to wonder why they would intentionally cut off parts of the coin in the pictures.

If the seller actually thought this was a real 1893-S morgan, I think you would be seeing full, indepth pictures.
My opinion is that its a fake.

Old adage applies. "If it sounds to good to be true then it probably is"

That doesn't even pass the most cursory of diagnostics.
I don't collect this series, but just look at that date--why do people throw their money away?

My opinion has always been, in most cases, no one can grade a coin or vouch for its authenticity based on photos.

This coin appears to be fake, based on the photo. If the coin appeared to be authentic, based on the photo, would you buy it?

Nope...my basic policy is never to spend more than 200 on an online coin (I have spent more for such items as 96 prestige proof set and 99 silver 9 coin set, etc.)..and if it's too good to be true at 200 (meaning grey sheet may have it at 500+ I pass) I pass...recently bought an svdb but got it at long beach coin convention in a pcgs slab ms-64 rb.

Most of the online coins I buy are either proof sets, mint sets, and/or commems

Only if the price doesn't make a forgery worthwhile, or the source is well-trusted. That said, I once spent $$ on an ebay coin that proved to be genuine.
But now I know better--I would only buy coins like that in person today.

That is exactly the way I see it and follow that policy

VERY expensive coins are only purchased from reputable Coin Show Dealers and are slabbed by ANACS, NGC or PCGS.

PS: ICG IS ANOTHER SLABBER I TRUST

That said I do realize there are fake slabs as well...you just have to be careful and knowledgeable about the coin you are seeking to buy

I wouldn't touch that thing with a ten foot pole. Eh, actually...

I checked PCGS price guide, and all the possible original coins this was faked from are still worth a bit:

1893 Plain: 320 in XF
18930: 650 in XF
1893CC (unlikely): 1650 in XF
1895S (also unlikely): 1000 in XF

200 is a fairly good price for a 'fake' which probably used a coin worth at least 350 now. If it can be restored it'd still be worth likely over 200.

Does that 3 not look like an altered 8?

I am far from an expert on this.

On second thought, if it is a faked 1898S, it is virtually worthless.

definitely a fake. 1893S only had one obverse die and that is not it. looks like a cast or false die coin. check its weight and composition if you can.

You need a picture of the whole coin, The R in liberty is Rounded and not strait and the nose to the stars on the outside of the coin don't align with a real one nor do the Eyes.

Nice. $306 for a nicely recarved 8 into a 3.
