The post office near my job use to have a machine that dispensed $1 coins, but it was removed after someone broke in to the PO and tried to steal it.

Post office machine still spitting SBA's. The U.S. has enough of them to last for another 369 years!

I don't think there are any machines releasing dollar coins around me.

When I was in LA in November 2014 the ticket machine at the LAX Green Line Metro Station gave dollar coins in change.

The paid parking lot in Ybor City gave me a hand full of Presidential dollars and I'm thinking the trolley car ticket machine gave dollar coins as well.

I have seen a few pop machines here and there that dispense dollar coins. The last time I saw one, a year or two ago at the car dealer, I used a 20 and got 18 dollar coins back. 5 were SBA's and the rest assorted Golden's.

As others have said, the PO near me used to give $1 coins in change, but that machine has long been replaced. Can't think of anywhere else around here.

Any vending machine in a government facility that takes coins is required to accept them. I would imagine if they take them, they also dispense them.

My post office used to dispense dollar coins in the automated machine. I would get the same cheap thrill buying stamps with a twenty.

However, those machines were only around for a few years, replaced with ones that take electronic payment only. If you want to pay cash, you get in queue, but the staff does not give out dollar coins for change.

Oh, dear, they were right under my nose.

I was passing two ticket machines at the Mount Kisko station of the Metro North Harlem River Line and noticed that one was plastic-only and the other accepted cash ... including dollar coins.

Hoping that what goes in might also come out, I selected a U$D 21.50 ticket and inserted two twenty-dollar bills and got a sad message that included words like 'cannot' and 'make' and 'change'.

Hoping that I had merely been overly ambitious, I tried again with a twenty and a ten and heard the happy:

CA-CHING CA-CHING CA-CHING CA-CHING CA-CHING CA-CHING CA-CHING CA-CHING

On my return to Grand Central Station, I noticed that many of the MTA ticket machines accept dollar coins and, well, what goes in ...

Not to encourage misbehavior, but I will note in passing that my U$D 21.50 round-trip ticket to Valhalla NY is refundable within 60 days of purchase. CA-CHING!

And, oh yeah, I almost forgot: 1x George, 1x JohnnyA, 1x TommyJ, 1x SBA (1979), and 4x SACs (00-P, 00-D, 01-P, 01-D) ... for coins that famously see little use, most of these were fairly worn.

Cheers,

/s/ ikeyPikey
