The 50's, 80's, and 90's all seem to be pretty notorious for overuse of dies

Whenever there's a high mintage for a certain year, this usually happens. The U.S. Mint likes to get as much use out of one die as they can to save money. That's a nice find you have there Cookiemonster.

Nice pick-up @CM--we don't usually see them with cracks at all four corners.

A very tired die..... Common to see the die crack from the four corners. I found one with 3 die cracks that were not on the corners:
1983-Lmc-With-4-Die-Cracks
1983-Lmc-With-4-Die-Cracks
1983-Lmc-With-4-Die-Cracks
1983-Lmc-With-4-Die-Cracks

Ok, does anybody know why the dies crack in these areas?

Stress from the metal movement toward the obverse bust?

To form the bust design, it puts a lot of stress on both dies. But the Reverse design of the Memorial cents fail more often on the obverse. The shaping the stock material sometimes made them break usually on 1-3 corners, but this one all 4 corners. It kind of like trying to bend a cracker. (it can't be done) But as the die age, die polishing affect the thickness of the die face, then break down and you know...Crack.
