Well I guess I need to stop saving pictures on my computer with file names that describe the problem. dugh!  But for those of you who didn't examine the picture's file name, this coin has an AT designation by PCGS. It's being offered in an upcoming heritage auction. I agree with cable guy who said the image was dark and appreciated you adding some light to it. I was baffled by the designation as well but with the added light perhaps it now looks justified? With these auction companies, you really have to adjust your eye to accurately comprehend what your seeing in their pictures. On one extreme side you have Heritage with their dark pictures and on the other side you have Great Collections with their overexposed pics with way too much light. In the middle you have Stacks who's pictures are just plain altered and inaccurate in my opinion(don't beat me up too bad baseball) and then who you have David Lawrence who's pics seem ok but they haven't had decent coin for sale at a reasonable price in months so they don't really matter anyways. I am uncertain how my "enhanced" picture is true to the real item. If I had to guess, my image overly exaggerates the lighting and color saturation. I just did so because sometimes exaggerating things makes problems really pop out more. This is something I have made a common practice with questionable pictures, and I must say that I have no doubt it saved me from some less than desirable coins. Quote:

If PCGS had more room on the little paper to describe the problems I have a feeling they would write a few more things. There is definitely some fudging in the fields. The tone is odd and uneven (especially seen in my pics) which is why I assumed it was cleaned. |

You should walk me through it some day. I use paint.net to crop, change background, and scale down coin pictures. All other features are a total mystery to me. What program do you use to do this? |

I actually have SuperDave to thank for this. I posted a thread sometime ago https://goccf.com/t/301529) about a morgan and he adjusted the image and in doing so got me thinking. I asked him what he uses but he never responded so I did a bit of digging. Plenty of software does this kind of stuff but I use good old excel... you'd be amazed what you can do. Go play around. I use Photoshop Express on my phone to edit images and sometimes using extreme techniques can make a certain detail stand out much more to determine if something is a good buy or not. I enjoy these things and I always try to guess before scrolling down and reading what others said, but part of that for me is right-click, save image as, so I can zoom in and look around, and oops, "20180429_1840-sld-questionable-color-obverse.jpg", spoiler alert! I really tried not to see it, honest.  |

The problem with the original link is the left parenthesis is missing and then the right parenthesis gets included when you click on it, so then the doc number can't be found so it defaults to the main forum page. I think with the left paren included it works right. Testing here http://goccf.com/t/301529)Nope! CCF strips out the left parenthesis when it shortens the link, leaving the right one. Therein lies the problem. |

Try using the Lightroom CC app. With Lightroom, you can adjust the exposure without changing color or contrast. If the color looks off and the coin is on a white background (or in a 2x2), you can use the white balance adjustment. |
