That's a awesome shot. I used to visit my daughter in Montana and video the storms there, then slow-mo the shots, incredible.

I love those large lightning bolts, they are amazing. Every time I see one I always find myself thinking if only we could harness the power in those things. A few good thunderstorms and who needs OPEC.

Beautiful! I love weather. I shot a lightning bolt on my digital in Northern Arizona last July. It was my first but not as nice as this. Thanks for sharing.

G'day, I live in a city which, apparently, has the most lightning strikes per annum of any city. About 400,000 each year, we are told. I've see plenty of pics of lightning, and yours is up there with the best of them. I think this is an endeavour in which "the harder you work, the luckier you get" applies. I hope to emulate this one day. Peter in Darwin, Australia

1. I was shooting the storm, hoping for the best. I took about 40 exposures, this was the best of them. 2. I use a Nikon D80 without filters or fancy add-ons. It sat on a tripod for a good steady shot. 3. The shot was taken in a ten second exposure at F3.5. I took a number of them at ten seconds, 20 seconds, and 1 minute. The longer shots overexposed the bolts and the ground. Shorter shots and some luck are the keys.

Cool !! A buddy of mine does this for a hobby.....He leaves the shutter open on the camera for a bit and then can capture 10 lightening strikes or so in one picture......amazing stuff ! He's got a whole photo album of these kinds of pics.....
