I know it doesn't help, but I am truely sorry about the situation. My great Aunt had an extremely large coin collection stolen from her back in the mid 70s. She said someone broke into the house grabbed the collection and even left a trail of coins they dropped going out the door. Just remember, when you find them, it's only illegal if they find the bodies. Mike

Kerry67 so sorry to hear you were robbed, I know how you feel and I pray they will catch the thieves and return your coins. I once had jewelery and a few coins stolden by a young teenanger who took them to a hawk shop, somehow the police found some of my things there and I got them returned.

Kerry67- yeah I agree with Collector 57, you never know what will happen. You may just get them back.

My heart is with you here. I used to be a card collector and a few years back, the heart of my collection was stolen. I was crushed and tried to get back into it but could never get to where I was. I abandoned that and had the bug to collect something...guess what I picked...I now keep my collection locked up at home and if I do take it with me (its' not too big yet), I make sure I have full view of it at all times.
Again, sorry for your loss.
~Mike~

if you are in the middle east that criminal would think a thousand times before they do what pleases them to do.. guess what, people their has different sense of punishment specially the olden days... a little bit different from the old west but much the same.. the part of your body that committed crime/s would be taken off.. if that theft is captured surely he would not have those hands within 24 hours

My family was robbed- house break-in in Jan 2006. I lost about 75% of my coin collection, my paper money collection (face value was over $2000 with notes going back to the early 1900s), and other things non-coin related were stolen. I had a complete Peace dollar set and an 80 coin morgan set in the safe. They carried the entire safe out (it was a small one, but still very heavy- way over 150 pounds). Anyhow, they caught the buggers- 3 females, yes females. Unfortunately, I only got back about 1% of what was stolen- they had pawned it all already. Huge amounts of proof sets and certified moderns were just broken open and dumped into a Coinstar machine. I tracked some of that, but they couldn't give it back to me, because there was no way they said of documenting what specifically was mine. I guess all those Buffalo nickels and wheat cents don't provide enough of a clue. The Coinstar machine did spit out the silver and some proof coins and so I have a few fingerprinted silver Washington Proof State Quarters from that. Good news: two of the three females are behind bars, one is serving 12 years because she's a third time felon. The other one walked- first offense and she supposedly cooperated with police and said she didn't actually go into the houses. I was one of 7 houses robbed over a 1 month period. It is so intrusive and painful and I still come home expecting the house to be emptied out. I hope there is a happy ending to your case, Kerry.

Sorry about your theft. Don't you wish you could have been there waiting with a shotgun. I keep the majority of my coins 85% in a safety deposit box and about 15% at home (for sales on ebay etc.) I also have 2 .45 autos close by. Tell you what, I would not even say "hey", I would open fire and drop em. It's California so I would probably be arrested immediately even in my own home. The police will always arrive after the fact. It's funny, they get to protect themselves and their families, what about the rest of us? Pretty sad society where criminals have all the rights and we have none.

Few more years and I will be out of California. Getting too crowded and our rights are going bye-bye.

That's the key. It's never just the monetary loss, or even the time you put into putting together a collection that winds up in a ConStar machine. It's the feeling in the pit of your stomach that you're never safe in owning anything, and that at any moment some scum can just take anything you have. That's why property owners should be allowed to shoot to kill anyone taking their stuff. Doesn't matter if it's a $5 shoplift or a $10,000 burglary, the feeling's the same.

I hope the scum that stole them dies a very slow and painful death. That is after they suffer someYou mean after I've seen to them first? I share your feelings about thieves to the core. They are at the base of all criminal activity and wrongdoing in society, the lowest bottom-feeding scumsuckers!... I hope they are caught..
