I come across fakes on ebay occasionally and bobby seems like the right guy to notify when I see them. Didn't realize I'd be interrogated, why is this access so exclusive? |

I'm interested in joining because I want to learn more about and expand my knowledge of fakes, so I can make good decisions when the time comes to buy the real coins...

Bobby has passed the counterfeit forums to me, so that is why I asked.
The forums used to be open to all, but there were problems. The counterfeit forums now have a more restrictive purpose. We now want people in there that will actually find and report counterfeits.

Is it possible to just join to learn more about fakes? Maybe then we'll be able to point out fakes from ebay. I'd love to join to learn, but I'd understand if it's not allowed for me. |

At this point we want people that already know how to spot counterfeits and can explain why the item is fake.

There are countless public topics on CCF regarding fake coins and their characteristics/diagnostics. You can start your own topic or use the Search function to find related existing topics spanning more than a decade. So .. there's a seller on ebay UK selling modern cast copies of hammered coins. Is it worth my joining so I can report and does it have more impact as it's linked to CCC than if I just report him myself? These are good quality copies and it's clearly intentional and it annoys me. I'd like to do something about it but last few times I reported on ebay UK nothing happened and I just .. well, gave up. I don't want to waste the time of people here if it's not going to work .. nor raise my blood pressure unnecessarily. Thanks. :D |

Any possibility to have a two tier opt in? Tier one would be the folks that can actually report and argue counterfeits and tier two, those that could learn from the process, read only? As an educational site I would hope that those of us who aren't experts would have an opportunity to learn from this.

You've clearly explained why you don't want certain people to post counterfeit posts. Please explain why the rest of us can't learn from those posts. All we're asking is for VIEW ONLY exposure to the conversations. As an educational site I would hope that those of us who aren't experts would have an opportunity to learn from this.
