Personally, I try to respond to topics created by members who are legitimately looking to learn and ask questions...and not members who post 100 different Lincoln memorial cents from the 1990s asking if they're a "double die" or worth big money. Quote: Another thing I've done in the last couple years or so... honestly not sure if it's right or wrong, I feel bad every time I do it, but I still do it.....
If it becomes obvious a new member is posting every single pocket change coin they get over 10 years old (or any coin with the slightest nick or discoloration) and asking "Any value?" or any of the thousand different questions that all mean the same thing.. (Is this an error? Is this a doubled die? etc...)... I lock the account, remove their topics, and delete all the images.
Like I said, not sure if it's right or wrong... but I grudgingly do it. I think what you do is justified. Some newer members will just post a thousand different normal coins from pocket change and ask questions over and over about them - and they won't be convinced that it is PMD or Machine Doubling or not an error. Personally, I think what you are doing is right.

When the basic forum premise is Education, not a show-and-tell forum, then there has to be some limit to ridiculousness. Some posts I've seen are definitely by Junior on his cell phone for the first time at 9 years old. When adults act like this it is obnoxious!
I have spent much detailed time and effort on some posters, only to have them argue or counterpoint with comments not appropriate. Those gotta go, I have a hard time with that. I've spent hours, both on threads and in emails helping folks to see a simple concept of a doubled die, that's the point. Does the individual really want to LEARN the answer. All you have to do is a quick check on all those one-hit-wonders, that get the answer and become water vapor.

I think that we have to be careful and not turn away a real novice who asks an honest question. At least give people a chance (but not 100 chances). But, as @bobby131313 notes, if it gets to be a trend and the posters are not "getting it", I think it is OK to do something.
Lets face it, anything open to the general public can get get all sorts of "strange" people (coin collectors are strange enough), and tolerance does have its limits.

Bobby and all mods. I think that when any action is taken to a members post;being moved, being locked being deleted ... whatever that the mod should be required to PM that member and tell them why that action was taken. This way the member knows why and can learn and change what they are doing wrong. By the way,I noticed two or three new members this morning that are female John1

Quote: By the way,I noticed two or three new members this morning that are female When I first started collecting coins back in the early 60's it was basically a mans hobby , no such thing of computers and the internet . Now in 2018 with electronics bursting open and any man ,women or child can access the Internet it's a lot easier to get into the hobby with all Numismatic material out there . So this is not only true for girls but for young boys as well . Just look at all the new members that are logging in every day . It's Phenomenal .

I encourage everybody and believe that every thread deserves a reply. Newbie's who don't find a longer term interest will shake out pretty quickly.

I tend to ignore majority of these type of threads, especially one's without pictures, asking if the coin "I" got is an error because you people are the experts, so it would save me time without paying others to find out...

I try to be helpful and encouraging for the most part, but there are definitely cases when I feel I have done enough and need to move on. At a certain point (which is different with every person) they need to take the learning process into their own hands.
