It is from Thailand. It's a 1 baht. The date is BE2549 (2006). I am amazed how many different foreign coins circulate there and in the US.

The 1980s is a proof-only issue, so it is a circulated proof; nice find! In my nickel survey, I've found 5 circ proofs in 6400 rolls, so they are not very common. I found the exact same Thai coin in one of the rolls I did, but it very well might have a different date (I can't tell!)

Cool..... Lucky finds up there in Canada my friend !.... I suppose If I asked "my" bank here in Kansas for rolls of "Canadian" coins, I'd get the same answer you did !

I think most of the 'errors' that you see are nothing other then wear. and the 'filled die' is nothing special, actually, finding a coin from the mid-late 70's without a filled die might be more of an accomplishment...

I was actually curious how often those in the states are able to find high grade coins in their circulation. Does this happen often?

Quote: I was actually curious how often those in the states are able to find high grade coins in their circulation. Does this happen often? I used to see a lot of nice coins as they came out each year. My modern albums were all built from circulation. I started those sets in 1980 and the coins from then to date are all in great shape. However, the last few years I am lucky to find one decent example for my sets. There are still some nice older dates turning up now and then as the unknowing "cash in" their inherited coins or as the not-so-bright thieves spend what they stole. It depends on what you mean by high grade. I look at more coins than most people do and usually average finding two or three gems per year. It's very hit and miss though and I'm not counting the gems I track down to the bank they come from.
Usually I'll save the best coins even if they aren't really gem so will save ten or fifteen coins each year since 1972. I also will set aside varieties especially if they're still nice. Some of the varieties are so common that they're only of interest in nice XF or better.
A lot of the early clad is no longer available above F condition.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

There's probably more US coins in Canada than you realize, especially in Toronto or any cities close to the border. I worked for a company that used a long haul trucking company out of Toronto. Maybe you have seen them Malissa; (AFJ Express). There are alot of trucks that run out of bigger Canadian cities to the US on a DAILY basis. I'd keep going to the same bank. Your bound to get more!

Malissa, I think I posted it under the JFK roll hunters before, but one of the first boxes of halves I went thru, 42 proof coins came out. They are in GREAT condition, so they must have been put in circulation days before. I could only guess how they got there. I love roll searching!
