Coin appears to have been polished. I'm betting it has no cartwheel luster. As the others have said, when ALL of the sellers coins look the same, that's a huge red flag! GOOD LUCK!

Shoulder seems pretty banged up, but that could just be bag marks. Not convinced it's been cleaned. I'd like to see different pics as well, but tentatively I'd say 63RD straight.

Hard to tell from these photos if it is original or cleaned.

So I got it. It does seem to be a little pale. Here's a couple of pics. I'm not sure if mine are any better than the sellers. What do you guys think is it worth the $40 I paid for it or send it back.

Nice DDO. Your pics are definitely better, but the surfaces still don't look original.

If it was my $40 I'd send it back. It's your $40 though so think about it before a knee jerk reaction.

Thanks guys. It may not show in my posts but I value your opinions and am slowly learning. I think I've figured out cleaned coins, for now.

The seller listed 2 1909 VDB DOO's not marked as such, I bought the first one (#6 in their listing) the one I received looked the same color as the one in the original post. It was definitely cleaned (dipped) without a doubt. I saw #3 as a DDO and passed as I felt the condition wasn't as nice. After seeing the one I bought, I decided to not bid on the #3 that that OP got. I have been trying to decide if it is worth listing as details to try and net 10-15$. Why do buyers fear leaving neural feedback? As I see it, they sell enough (almost 15,000 feedback) that they must have known it was dipped and therefore listed it as such. I think I should return it just so I can warn other buyers that they sell cleaned coins without disclosing it.

Sure they knew it was cleaned. But they were betting the coin would be bought by someone that would not return it.

Here's a reference to associated value according to grade.

http://coppercoins.com/diesearch.php

Those values are fairly hard to fetch, but you can expect to pay close to the listed numbers on the better varieties that folks seek. Your variety is a better variety that folks want. However, having been cleaned, I suspect that you could discount the value by 2/3rds. One of your fellow coin enthusiasts offers MS details; I'm not there myself due to the grainy texture left by the cleaning. But if they are right, then $40 is probably a fair price for that 'grade' of coin as offered by Coppercoins. And if you want that variety in your collection as you look for a better coin, then keep it. Otherwise, you can send it back. Good luck!!
