If "reasonable condition" and "cleaned" are the same thing.......then it shouldn't be too hard to put it together !
But I know I need to really get more educated on "cleaned coins" and learn better on what to look for ! (as do many of us here on CCF probably).....because I really don't want to pay a high premium on ANYTHING and then find out it's been cleaned to attain that $$price$$!......

JBuck, what condition is your set in primarily?
They range from G to EF. The bulk are G-VG, but a few of the common dates are EF.

My IHC set is sort of an accident. It started in 1993, when I finally decided to get my few Buffalo nickels and Mercury dimes out of the Whitman folders I had.

When I was looking at the Buffalo and Mercury Dansco albums, I noticed they only had two pages in a binder that could accommodate four. This bothered me! The dealer suggested making a custom binder with the blank nickel and dime pages he had. The blank pages allowed me to skip any of the varieties I did not want to deal with, like the three-legged Buffalo and over-date Mercury dimes, but still leave room for those at the bottom if I changed my mind. Sounded good, but the smallest generic Dansco binder he had holds six pages!

Ah-ha! Lets add two pages for Indian cents to the mix!

I figured I would go ahead an add the IHC, even though they are not really contemporary with the the other two series. I call it my "previous cent/nickel/dime series to the modern cent/nickel/dime series" album.

The two IHC pages sat empty for a few months until I bought eleven of the "common" date Indian Head cents from the "junk" pile at the coin shop for $10. Some of these "common" coins were in really good shape for the price!

Those eleven coins sat alone for a few years. In 1999, I bought the other 20 coins in my "short set" for around $40 I think. Wow, the IHC collection has been idle almost ten years now!

Many thanks for all the constructive comments about the IHC which I still think is a great coin to hold, collect and pass on (to someone who will cash them in). Perhaps this forum will give the same opportunity to sell or exchange to other qualifying members who cherish the same interest.

Also forgot to add, most of my IHC are in fine condition at best. Soooooo I am thinking that's about the best I can get on the 'dark side' unless I visit your fine country cashed up and all.

I'm been collecting them for awhile. I think it's one of the nicest coins minted. Problem now is the ones I want and buy are BU's. Catch some deals here and there. Nothing like a shiney red IH. :) , well maybe some nice shiney gold.

I'm presenty working on set #5 of those. First 4 sets almost complete except for that stupid 1856 and a few of those 1869/8. Not sure about those 69/8's though since you really need an electron microscope to see the 8's. Presently no 1856's either. One thing I hate about the Whitman Albums is the slots for impossible or nearly impossible coins. All these Indian Headed coins are really common at coin shows I go to but so far never seen an 1856. Not sure if the Flying Eagle cents should really be included anyway in the IHC collection but they have slots for them in the albums. Most of my set #1 is a minimum of Au grades with many in MS. By the time I get to set #4 or #5 most are just in the VG to VF grades. Would like to have the money to have 10 sets of all coins with the first one in all MS grades.

Just curious, how many of those sets have the 1877 and 1909-S?

5 sets? Holy cow that is impressive! Are they all complete with 77 and 09S?

My first complete set is all Fine or better except for 72, 76, 78 and 09S. The 77 is F but corroded. 1880-1909 are all EF-MS with one or two exceptions. In the 60s and 70s there are mostly F with a few VF/EF.

My second set is complete but largely low grade except for 1887-1909 being F or better.

I have another bunch of partial sets I'm working on, but missing al lot of 60s and 70s and the budget busters 77 and 09S.

I probably would have collected them all as well, but my mother-in-law didn't tell me that her great-grandmother gave this box with 519 IHC she collected as a girl (she died in 1962 at the age of 91)...so do the math.

Indian-Cents

Needless to say, about 7 years ago she took them to a coin shop and got some money to buy some mini-blinds! Ugh I can only imagine what was in that box... So I kept the box as a momento...

I asked her why did she do that and she said she hates clutter! As some of you all may remember I asked her is she had anymore clutter and she produced some "old quarters"...21 rolls of silver quarters, which most were Washingtons, so I finished my Washington quarters.
Rest in Peace

I highly recommend asking your elders if they have any lying around before they get Coinstar-ed!

Wow, especially since the most valuable coin--the 1888/7 S-1 was only discovered in 1970. I don't want to imagine what was hidden in that box all those years.

I have (had) two sisters who found (it was not lost) my spare pre-decimal coins and brought ice creams with them. Needless to say one day I am going to talk to them.

Yes!, as long as you're not in a hurry. Some very knowledgeable folks here, helped me a lot. Don't fear the IHC!
