Thanks everyone. I don't collect this way as a rule, but got intrigued after buying the 1935A star on impulse at a local show. This seemed a "do-able" project after ruling out the 1928 series as too expensive (ask Steve ) and the 1957 series as too common. It was not my main collecting focus during this period, just a side project that indulged my "hole-filling" disorder.

babysitr - My general goal was just 65PQ or better, which seemed attainable. I would never submit notes to PCGS, because I think they're less consistent than PMG, but I have no problem buying them if they're correctly (or under) graded. In this set, all of the PCGS notes are solid for grade or better in my view.

Inspiration for us all.

I'm going to start on that quest once I finish my "base base" 1935 SC set -- just a couple to go.

Base: 66+ grades of '35, A, HI, NA, B, C, DW, DN, E, F, GNM, G, H. Will skip the experimental notes. I have a PMG 64 NA SC that will need to be upgraded at some point.

Stars: not sure yet but probably your path: 65+ grades of 35, A, B, C, DW, DN, E, F, GNM, G, H.

That should keep you busy for awhile! Skipping the Experimentals?

Yes, skipping experimentals, at least for the first pass. I have a majority of the "base" set already, just have to find a couple more at decent prices.

I've discovered I do not own one 1935 plain note.

I was hoping I was wrong, and I was. I have exactly one 35 plain.

And a "12" at that. How convenient...

I think he mentioned spending numbers 1 through 11 before realizing what he had.

Right. Steve probably still has the first silver certificate he got for mowing a lawn.
