Good question! We'd rather they weren't too flat.

Steve nailed this early on. I mean, I know PMG can be tough, but c'mon!

What's a guy to do?

I would resubmit and ask for a Presidential Review.

They were a bit harsh. I was thinking 65.

Edit to add: Appears to be in an old PMG holder, so that's probably a factor as well. I have a 1880 $1 Legal Tender note in an old holder like that.. It has two light folds and was graded a 35EPQ.

That's the curse of this game. I can show many PMG 65PQ notes with inferior centering. I know, buy the note, not the grade. But no one pays 65 money for a 64.

Waaaaaaay better centering than 64 IMHO

I'm assuming you submitted this one and it wasn't a purchase? I suppose you could re-submit as Steve suggested. I've never done this, does PMG have much of a track record in upping the grade on a reconsideration?

Yes, I submitted this years ago in a lot. I remember being disappointed but sort of forgot about it until my computer totally crashed and I had to re-scan my entire collection (now in the cloud ) and came across it, along with a few others which I'll post soon.

PMG has this Regrade option, as Steve suggests, but I doubt they publish the cumulative results.

I was messaging with a friend that has a HUGE collection. I asked him about a Presidential review and this was his message,

The review is in conjunction with a Reholder of the note. A normal Reholder is just that, take the old note regardless of the grade and stick it into a new holder. Takes 5 business days to get back if shipped into corporate and cost roughly $8-15 per note depending on what you have negotiated. A Presidential Review and Reholder is a new Submission from the normal graders up to the finalizers and then a Reholder into the new holder. Takes 7 business days and adds $5.00 to the cost per note.

It's well worth it if you think your note has a shot at a Technical Grade upgrade or a STAR for the "Eye Appeal". With at least 6-8 people (Graders) no longer there, the grading standards have changed BIG TIME over the years.

For me, I have had notes in all (4) Generations of holders including the Gen1 Yellow/Green holders. In almost 100% of the cases, these notes graded 1-2 points higher and about 50% received the STAR designation.

Overall, here are the Statistics on my submissions that will BLOW your mind.

Total Notes Submitted - 3740 Notes.
44% Upgrade 1 Grade point. (In my cases, that meant a 64Q to 65Q or 65Q to 66Q and so on.)
56% Received the STAR Designation for Exceptional Eye Appeal
0% Went down any grade

I still have about 500 or so FED's to do so in all my collection will have 4000+ notes in the new holders.

PMG has this Regrade option...

From the back of the PMG submission form, the normal PMG regrade is
Quote:
If you disagree with a grade assigned by PMG, you may submit the note for review for a higher grade. The note must be intact in its PMG holder. Also choose a grading tier according to note value and desired turnaround time. Grading fees will apply.

What Steve is describing appears to be something unadvertised and different? or was it just something that was negotiated because so many notes were being submitted at once?
