Since the weight is off, it was probably rolled on thin stock or something like that. Definitely a great find! A keeper!

The line across the coin looks like a ridge.
To my way of thinking, that would be due to a die crack.

Makes for a coin with two interesting errors !

Thanks. I'm pretty happy to find this, mostly because what ever it is it's my first rim to rim.

QuarterHoarder27, your Tapered Planchet is only 0.1 grams off of mine that I found earlier this year. Mine weighs 2.8 grams. Check it out. http://goccf.com/t/337327

That's a lucky find. I'm getting my first penny box next week I believe so I'm hoping to find something great.

One more question- would this be considered a type of split die? Still looking for my first one of those.

QuarterHoarder27, I believe that is a Lamination error, so it wouldn't be a Die Crack or a Split Die error.

I'm thinking the weakness seen on the obverse is the result of material lacking on the reverse at the time of strike.

The reverse seems to have partially split (apart) pre-strike. The line running parallel between United States and Of America is a first for me as far as a coincidence in location. The weight is lacking, but not by much. Interesting example for sure. Thanks, Doug.
