Took new pictures hopefully the lighting is better and more clear. I took the cover off the capsule for the frest picture and tried the light blocking and no flash. In order to get the back I ended up removing the coin from the capsule and blocked light also and no flash. Hopefully this is better? I'm a coin collector, not a photographer LOL!
There still some light shining behind her to the rim I couldn't block from any angle I tried to block it. Both picture have light coming from the right still even though the light is overhead... I dunno...

Are these W quarters considered instant key dates?

OP.... your coin looks to be 66 at a minimum to me. Newest pictures seem to show that the surfaces are fairly free of distracting marks.

I think with the way they have been widely distributed they can be considered "key" dates. Two million is a lot of coins, but finding real nice ones seems to be a challenge.

Prices seen to be holding in the 10 to 20 $ range for most of the raw "W" quarters except for the N Mariana Islands American Memorial Park coin. That particular coin just seems to be scarcer for some reason.

Thanks for the feedback. Question: Why would distribution have anything to do with key date?

You think two million is a lot of coins for a common business strike clad coin? Could you elaborate?

The Mint controls the distribution of the "S" mint business strike quarters thru their website. Those coins can be bought in $10 rolls and $25 bags at less than double face value. The mintage for the "S" mint business strike quarters runs just south of the two million mark for most of the issues so far. The key is they are readily available in quantity from the mint or from online resellers. There is no shortage of the S mint business strike ATB Quarters.

On the other hand, I've read that the "W" business strike quarters were distributed by the mint into the D and P Ballistic Bags by the scoop. A Ballistic Bag of 100000 P or D quarters might contain 500 to 1000 W coins maybe more or less. (If they were distributed evenly this way!). The mint has worked hard to get the W coins as widely distributed as possible. Hoards of hundreds and thousands of W coins have not shown up (yet). Rolls occasionally show up on the Bay.

Distribution is the key here.

Will the W quarters end up being key dates? Only time will tell!

All 13 of the W mint quarters I've found to-date exhibit the typical 'bag' dings one would find with other newly-distributed quarters. I'd say mine range from MS-62 to -64. Nothing spectacular.

I've pulled two 67's from circulation.
