NumisRob....
We are planning on adopting again through Operation Kindness here in Texas around Nov 21st of this year. That was the month and day that little Sylvester joined us in 2002.
Naturally, we will not name the new kitty Sylvester as that name is retired for us. We have thought about it and we are thinking about going with Felix this next time.
My only problem is I am now getting up in years myself and my biggest concern is the new kitty will probably out live me. I have already talked to my youngest daughter about taking him if/when something happens to me. She has agreed. So, we are looking forward to adopting in a few months.
We sure miss little Sylvester every time we come in the house. This place is so much bigger, emptier and lonely now.

westernsky: Find a previously loved mature cat from the pound, that is down on it's luck, because the previous owner has died. Those are the calmest, and will quickly appreciate kindness from a gentle new owner.
New bonds can form quickly.

Thanks. We have thought about doing a senior adoption.
Right now we are just going to take a breather. It's been a tough couple of weeks.

I am very sorry for your loss. It's always hard to lose a cat you loved so much. I have lost one of my cats a year ago (July 14th, 2018) do to stomach cancer. My cat Smoky only lived to be 8 years old. Had to put him down, as the cancer made him too weak to walk on his last day.

Thank you! I am so sorry about Smoky. It really stinks to lose these little guys that we become so attached to. Not a day goes by that I don't look at little Sylvester's picture on the wall and just wish I could hug him one more time and listen to his purring. I miss him terribly and will for a very long time.

My heart is right there with you, @westernsky. Too many animal friends/family have come and gone in my life with some very tough decisions. I am blessed to have a cat like no other that I've known before. He's about 10 years old now and crazy in a good way (we think he's half dog ). We found him in a parking lot as a tiny kitten. Whether a senior adoption or younger cat, you have love to give and there are so many out there in need.

Hung her and love her every day. She is beautiful!
I still miss my buddy Sylvester and am so thankful he was with us for almost 17 years.
We are getting close to going to Operation Kindness and adopting another kitty.

I know how hard it is to lose a pet, especially when they are truly part of the family. Hope you find an awesome new best friend! You and Sylvester will meet up again some day too ;-)

vermontensium - thanks for bumping this thread back to the top. I don't check in often enough to family topics and missed it earlier.
westernsky I'm so sorry for your loss. I agree that cats are family and it hurts when we lose one. Our Cleo died many years ago. Now when I think of her I think more about the great years we had together and less about the pain of losing her.

My youngest daughter had this 12x12 mosaic pave stone made for us a few weeks ago. The image of Sylvester is striking, to say the least. This will be heading out into the backyard next Spring!
