I would think, PCGS would give it at least a 'genuine'.

It's only surprising when a Coin of that age HASN'T been cleaned.
Did they encapsulate with a improper cleaning? Or was the coin encapsulated as Genuine? Either way, that's still a great coin in anything like VF or better, cleaned or not.
Time at PCGS at the various stages can be nothing more than a wish rather than a count in days. There is NO chance that they treated your submission with anything less than respect.

Moxking- Encapsulated Genuine AU Details (92 Cleaned) I was under the impression that the Cleaned designation would lower the coin's desirability as a collectible.

As mentioned your coin definitely got looked at properly. PCGS is backed up right now with the intake part of it. There's been some shows and this part of the summer is when people use their vacation time. It's pretty typical for summer and early in the year to take a little longer than usual. The times mentioned are estimates that start once the submission is entered into the system. It does compared to a non-details version with some styles of cleaning hurting it more than others.

basebal21- Thank you for all your feedback. The guy I bought this from told me it came up in a shovelful of dirt down here in Nicaragua. He said he dunked it in a bucket of water to rub off the encrusted dirt. Probably dried it on his shirt. Knowing the seller as I do, I have no reason to believe otherwise. I guess cleaning as subtle as this can be detected by experts...

I'd still say it has very nice eye appeal for a cleaned coin. While it will effect the price a bit, because it isn't too obvious it won't make a huge impact.

Beautiful coin. On something that dated and desirable, the details designation won't drive off many buyers.

None of us were at PCGS to determine how they actually cared for the coin. Saying how they handled it is pure speculation at best, but you can guarantee they did the job at least as well as those at the following link: https://www.coincommunity.com/forum...y_ID=2967242Scroll down at the link to see the video.

Quote: None of us were at PCGS to determine how they actually cared for the coin. Saying how they handled it is pure speculation at best, Can you stop with this misleading garbage? Trying to imply they ruined the coin messing with and then details graded it is one of the most misleading things you have ever posted and that says a lot.

Quote: That's just speculation on my part and I realize that 2-5 days is merely an estimate. Also the clock doesn't start until they mark it as "received" so that first two weeks it sat between the time it arrived and the time it was marked into the system as Received doesn't count. So your coin had a 1 day turnaround. Quote: I was under the impression that the Cleaned designation would lower the coin's desirability as a collectible. It does.
