Darn hard to find in MS, although circs come up now and then. Mine is ANACS MS63 RED so I looked at the pop and it is listed at 2/6 with only 6 total in any grade slabbed by ANACS. I have another one maybe UNC-details but didn't pull it out to really check.

That is an awesome find!! I have a few rare coins like this and I wonder if collectors have them and just don't send them to TPG because they aren't commonly sold?

@Willburton, I think that is the case with a lot of nice varieties. It's always tough to find a good value range for these types as well since so little are sold.

You guys talked me into it. I'm going to get a box of pennies tomorrow . Haven't gotten one in four months or so. The last one was good!

I don't get it! How is that a DDO? Nothing else is doubled. Just the ear lobe is elongated. Wouldn't that be caused by a die chip? It's a nice find. Hard to catch. I am only questioning the validity of the listing.

both coins that I have found contain the die markers listed on doubleddie.com.

thanks all
and yes, I think collectors are not submitting to a TPG.

If the ones that I have found were in MS condition, I would have send to a TPG.

OK so you are saying the die chip on the ear lobe is the marker for a very suttle DDO.

Hello TwistedTrader,

When remarking about the die markers, I was responding to John1.

I see doubling in the ear and not a die chip; I am far from being an expert.

I'm trying to understand how the ear can be doubled and not the whole overce.

Dies are conical (cone shaped) so if a die isn't fully squeezed, it would result in an incomplete design with the detail at the center only being visible.

Mint employees likely began making this die with it offset to the south, realized the offset before it made a complete hubbing, then restarted with the alignment corrected.

I was looking at this one on the devices, and wondering what am I missing. It is a doubled ear.

I still get mad everytime I see this coin, because 2 years ago it came up on ebay for only $20 in at least AU, but I wasn't really interested in it at the time. If only I'd known how rare it was
