I think it's VF details but think it might be in an EF details holder.

I grade it as Straight 750 bucks on the table...cash please :) all around sweet and coveted coin. Nice one panzaldi, thanks for showing it. VF30 straight.

In the end, the slab grade doesn't matter. This is an unfortunately disfigured coin that will never trade at a straight price.

Almost looks like an added "S". The mark on the mint mark makes it hard to verify. VF30 details scratched.

here is what PCGS said. I had it at XF40 and wasn't sure if the scratches would details it but I guess it was enough to do that. anyone care to comment on what they think a fair value would be for it?

As I thought! Yay me, I win the prize of nothing, LOL - (well except I forgot PCGS calls them XF not EF), DOH! As to a value I look to either other similar priced details coins in recent auctions on ebay, Heritage, Great Collections, etc. anywhere you can find them really. Another good guess is the next grade down so XF40 to VF20 or take 35-60% of cost off pricing of EF not detailed. So much will depend on how badly the detail area is, where it is on the coin, and how in demand the date/mintmark is. You have a pretty wanted coin, though common for a rare coin, being that 1909-S vdb are not difficult to find for sale in the market for the most part. I'd guess on this coin $350-775.00 I know that's quite a large range. I personally would pass on it all day long as they are so many better looking ones out there, and there is no real upside on this coin unless I could buy it really, really cheap (like $300-325.00 cheap). It would sit a long time priced in a coin case at a shop or at a show. In auction with no reserve is about the only way it would sell, I think, but you never know what you will end up getting until it's over. My Two Cents - which may or may NOT be worth anything.

IMO ~700. But probably $650. In all reality, 09-S VDB LWCs have been selling rather well lately, even details coin are selling quite well, often times selling for close to a straight graded coin in the same grade.

As GrapeCollects says these have been selling pretty well, that price he thinks is at my higher estimate, and my price I'd pay is only because I don't need one, and am not looking only as a way to flip and make money on it. Find a collector that needs it or better yet two or more then let 'em fight it out with their wallets. I'd be listing it on ebay with a higher BIN price and offers accepted and then wait & see.

If I needed the coin it would be in competition with a F12-15ish slabbed example with clear VDB , clear fields and smooth brown patina just below 685.00. Your coin looks good so if you offered it at 620.00 I might jump, any more would cause me to jump back to the straight graded coin. At 580 - 600.00 bucks I would buy it cash on table and wouldn't look back. Sort of cockamanied process but that's round about how I go about considering details key dates. About the time I think I have the minus 2.5 grades or 35% off thing figured the coin sells for 87% retail thus proving I don't have anything figured. I go with Grape comments on the coin. Lastly, still think its a good looking rascal.
