Thanks, Ill send pictures of all the new things I've ordered over the past month (which is a lot), Ive always been into Canadian currency, in fact its mostly what I collect, I don't bother with American coins. Pictures of the most recently delivered pickups on the way. Also thanks for the tip! Ill check out Allen's.

Most recent pickup, in VG/F condition, blemish and small dings aside.
1897 5 cents, only 4 USD for this one.

Go with the dollars.
Silver is low right now and the $US is high.
Except for the key dates the prices of silver dollars is very much in step with the price of silver.
I have found every year except '38 '45 '47 '47ml and '48 in dealer melt buckets.
Most years of Elizabeth dollars can be found uncirculated at bullion prices.

"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

Thats what I aim for too, the dollar coins are hard to find in much less than F, different story for silver 5 cents for sure. Price skyrockets after VF except on KGV years.Thats why Ive been on a mission acquiring all the Victorian 5 cents in VF/above that I can, they're cheap right now.

I like the 5 cents coins, if some weren't so expensive I would do that set!

Expensive only if you're going for extra fine examples and every single variety, not even comparable to a cents collection, but even VG/F/VF examples can be readily found for cheap. Ish.

In F12 the following are prices in CAD, I just picked a few..
1858 - 41.40
1870 - 36.80
1872 - 98
1875 - 322
1884 - 268
1889 - 57.60
1921 - 6400

Definitely not inexpensive.

At auction probably. ebay is a different story, 1884 and 1875 are expensive in any condition, 1858 also somewhat applies. Large date 1858s are double if not triple small date prices. Good luck with 1921 too, I've never seen anybody with one. Also those prices are in CAD... big gap there

river4449, I was lucky enough to see one (and hold it in my hand!) at a recent coin show. It's one of the nine remaining five-cent pieces I need to complete my set.
Three of the four "Vickies" I need are well over $100 for even lower grades, as well as all the later (1950's +) varieties. I've 'closed' shop on getting them at this point.
I've seriously also thought about adding the early (pre-1967) dollars to my collection. It's probably cheaper than getting some of the newest NCLT silver dollars. Good luck in whatever choice you make!

Lucky duck! Once some of my ebay listings start selling I'll be able to buy up some dollars... I've bought 25 silver 5 cents in the past month to fill holes in the album so I need a break!

Just a little update, the first(second) dollar is on the way. I picked it up with shipping for under spot which is nice, it's nothing special but I couldn't pass up the deal. Pictures to come when it arrives! I also will be receiving more 5 cents silver today, I've ordered so many I cant remember which comes today but pictures to come for that as well.
