I'd say F-12.

Ohhh how I dream of finding a coin like that! Very nice overdate. I am at VG-10 as well. Did you find this one?

VG-08 only because of the worn B in liberty, also the reverse picture is a little out of focus at the top so I could not assume it would bring the overall grade up. I agree that it is an amazing coin to have. Great find!

Nice 19412 Merc! I'm at VG-10 obverse, F-12 reverse, no eye appeal adjustments, tossup on blended grade. PCGS tends to be conservative on tossups, so I would expect VG-10 here.

Diagonal bands gone, vertical lines mostly gone, some lettering worn flat. VG-8. Great coin to have, though!

I'd say VG-10, "cleaned"

For those new to grading Mercury dimes, look at this coin on the reverse, the vertical sticks in fasces are key points to notice.

With "VG-8", one-half of the vertical sticks can be seen in the fasces. With "F-12" all sticks in fasces are defined, but the diagonal bands are worn nearly flat. So, overall I think it is slightly better than VG-8, but not quite reaching the F-12 grade, thus my grade of VG-8. The quality of the strike can be a factor, and I think the this one is about average. Most Mercury dimes were not struck very well.

On a good day, it's possible PCGS could give this rare coin a grade of F-12, but the strike could hold it back.

Just to clarify things up here , I took into a lot of consideration on the obverse of this coin which is not too shabby at all . Yes the reverse faces is a bummer . If I had to change my call it would be Net VG-10 instead of F-12 .

no, I actually purchased this coin at a coin show in in the late 70's for $110. there was a 42/1-D and this one both in the same grade for sale and I chose this one as I like the overdate better

maybe the lighting threw everyone off on this one. prior to submission I had it at VF20

$110 at VF looks good from here! Nice return on this one IMO.
