Wow, what a find! Ironically, one of the hardest doubled dies to tell apart from MD in my opinion due to the relative lack of clear separation lines or split serifs, but this is definitely it.

Nice find for your 1st DDO.... on ebay slabbed/graded PCGS AU-53 starts at $400. What's the reverse look like? |

While this looks a lot like Machine Doubling, seeing a side by side on these will help to see the devices are enlarged: _SBS_nor_AAA.jpg) Note on this image, both are showing Machine Doubling. On this area on the FS-101, you can see the MD horizontal, but the hub doubling vertical. So you see it now. The devices are enlarged. And even doubled dies can be affected with Machine Doubling, exactly the same way normal dies are affected. On the OP's coin there is also an issue with Machine Doubling as well. @Coin Rejector - The reverse is in much better shape. NGC offers fairly cheap conservation services for modern coins. On their submission form, it's listed as $11. Although, another page on their site says the minimum is $25. I don't really know if conservation would be right for this coin. Regardless, I'll probably send it in for grading/authentication.

@JoeVegas.... If it were me, I'd have no problem sending it in. It probably won't come back MS64, like ijn1944's, but possibly the fine people here @ CC would care to give their opinions on a grade?

I know I haven't posted a reverse photo, and the photos I did post are not of the highest quality, but I'm assuming it's clean enough to get a grade and not a details. In it's current state, I'm guessing it's an XF coin? With conservation it can get some of that environmental junk off it? I don't know if an AU 50 is even realistic.

Congrats on the find! This was my first DDO find too in August of last year (see the link below). I found mine so fast after first starting to look for varieties that I didn't even know what MD was or that it was a highly sought after variety. |
