I'd be nervous getting any of those just thinking how to possibly secure it. Probably need a 400 lb safe with 8 inch bolts into concrete, and a high end security system.

PCGS seems to have been "out to lunch" when this coin got slabbed. I love the design so much that I sprung $5 for a copy, some years ago. Resurrecting this design on a modern coin souds like a great idea to me!

I love the Gobrecht dollar patterns. I almost bought one (an impaired proof) EF45 in an early ANACS holder a long time ago, I should have too, seeing how much they have gone up in price. My favorite is the J-63 Name under Liberty and no stars reverse, although the copper patterns are also very attractive to me as well. https://images.PCGS.com/CoinFacts/3...821_2200.jpgGrapeCollects - I agree it's about the best looking coin we ever designed, though the unique gold Indian pattern (J-1905 ex J-1776) is tie for best. Sold at Auction '84 to a Private East Coast collector. https://images.PCGS.com/CoinFacts/6...069_2200.jpgExoGuy - I too have a copy, mine is a silver round bullion medal. I paid $20 when silver was quite a bit higher than now. Probably overpaid for it, but it's such a neat looking piece. The Gobrecht dollar is the coin that I owe my coin collecting interest too, as it won me a scholarship to attend the ANA Summer Seminar back when I was just a kid starting high school. I did a presentation paper on them and a talk at the local club. I guess I also won because I didn't require a airline ticket, living only 55 miles away from the ANA headquarters. Anyways it led to a lifetime membership in the ANA many more Summer Seminars attended and my love of coins. So the Gobrecht dollar patterns will always hold a special spot in my heart.

Westcoin, that is an interesting backstory you've got there. I also own a nice silver round copy of the Gobrecht, which is likely as close as I'll get to owning one barring a lottery win.

Thanks, I agree, I'll need to win the Lotto before I'm buying a Gobrecht pattern coin too. The one I looked at almost getting was $5500 IIRC - it was a long time ago, it's probably a $35K+ coin today. It was about 30 years ago, so a $1K increase in value each year is about right.

These are nice. When I get one it will be a 1838 in a no problem pf-6x holder. These seem to be coming out of the woodwork lately so opportunity may arise.

I also see you can save $10K by ordering direct off their website and not ebay! LOL https://www.nfccoins.com/products/10861These guys (Numismatic Financial Corporation) have some other much more affordable Gobrecht patterns also for under $40K, and a few super Two Cent patterns that caught my eye, if I only had a few hundred thousand extra laying around, dang it.

No, I don't want it. #1 it is a restrike and somewhat beaten, #2 I prefer the unadorned obverse without the stars of the earlier years. I think I could have a lot more fun with that much money.

Quote: Just remortgage the house, the wife would never know! I already traded her in on some old coins. Sold the house never bought another one. Now I'm too poor to get another one, renting now. At least the coins don't argue with me, take an hour to get ready before going out of the house or tell me to put the toilet seat down.
