Your coin beats the tar out of any Two Cent in my collection. What a beaut!

NGC is notoriously difficult on full red designations for this series. I've seen quite a few that I would call red that NGC has walked through as RB. They also seem to hit the brakes at MS-64, as well. IMHO, this is MS-65RB, but I fear NGC would come in at MS-64RB.

If NGC is at MS-64RB, you might want to show it around on a bourse floor and get an in-hand consensus opinion on whether to crack and resubmit to PCGS. JMHO.

I feel it's MS 65 R/B, but I think NGC gave it a MS64 RB designation.

Time for the reveal!
1865-Two-Cent-Piece-You-Vs-NGC

I genuinely think that this was undergraded. I can see this easily being a 65 with a solid shot at 66. From all the auctions I've watched, and from TrueViews and listings on ebay it seems that TPGs generally grade 2c pieces either extremely liberally or extremely conservatively. I've seen 2c pieces with a huge gash in the field go 66+RD then see examples like this at 64. At some point I'll send it for reconsideration, but probably at no time in the near future. I can't comment on the in hand color as it won't be in hand for about another week. All in I paid $420 so a great price to boot.

i agree with your assessment Grape. I think your piece got caught up in top pop grading where someone didnt want to pull the trigger that this one deserved to be up there.

@GrapeCollects, IMHO, you might have a better shot at 65RD/65RB with PCGS. I don't think NGC will move above 64RB.

I was actually just considering sending it to CAC and just taking the gold bean. I have a bunch of stuff I want to have stickered so it makes more sense just to send it along with them.

(Queue the people who endlessly crap talk CAC)

Wow, that's low! I really thought it HAD to be a MS66 and thought it could have been full red.
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!
