I don't know if it's been cleaned or not. I take and get the oil from my fingers off before I put it back in case is all I've cleaned on it.

At the most I've ever done is run water over it. If that's cleaning it then yes it's been cleaned. No telling what has happened with it the 70 years prior to me finding it. Either way it's brought me a lot of pleasure. I have two other coins I found that have probably been discussed more than anything else I own. There's just something about a coin. Still a lot of kid in me I guess

Looks AU technically, but I agree it has seen abrasion, likely from a past cleaning. Nice coin to have for sure!

With Bump111 , nice high AU but too much chatter and friction on obverse . Even at AU-58 Details the coin has a nice value . Holder that bad boy and put it in a safe place.

Hahaha, thank you all so much for your input. This forum is not only informative but also a great read. I'll make sure and stuff it away where it takes another 20 years to find it again. Thank you all

Are the mottled fields typical for the date? The reverse shows more than I'd expect, makes me worry it's a cast fake.

It is a low mintage coin. Save until someone is really looking for one, then sell it.

Not saying it's not real thing but something isn't quite right about the coin and it's surface like nick10 suggests. Hairline scratches on the obv. from an old cleaning?
I would build a complete set (32-64) around that guys!

Its very easy to get a the scratches on a silver coin. Woth you running water on it and just rubbing your finger across it or drying it with a towel can get the scratches enough to get a cleaned grade. Definitely been cleaned. Still a valuable coin. Might be worth getting graded even with the details grade and to verify its legit if you plan to sell it.

No I'm not going to sell it. I'll pass it to my kids one day. It was in my pocket change when I found it so I'm actually surprised it's in as good a shape as it is. Surely it sat for ages until a kid got into what he thought was loose change and put it back into circulation. Wish I knew what y'all were seeing on the coin, I just don't have the eye for it.
