Most mail order stores are somewhat... undesirable. Meant more for Joe Bob than an actual collector. That said, I have ordered sight unseen before from dealers and been perfectly happy, just have to know who you're dealing with. Heck, I've sold to people on here sight unseen before. Not a peep of a complaint. Just know who you're dealing with and it's a non-issue.

I've used several and been very happy. For coins I recommend Grape (above), and Allen's

There a few more. I also use ebay but really only for slabbed coins and only as a 2nd or 3rd source. I would rather buy locally.

Thank you for your input and suggestions. I will check out the sites mentioned. I also wanted to relay that I have had a good experience with a place called Golden Eagle Coins in Maryland. I only ordered from them once (circulated coins) and each coin was correctly graded and problem free using photograde standards. They may be just a tad over priced however. On another note I had ordered a few times from Mount Vernon and have been disappointed. One was an 1892 Barber quarter advertised as BU that barely graded xf with hardly a trace of luster. I sent that back. And more recently a group of Silver Eagles that weren't as blemish free as I had expected, but since they were just for bullion I didn't complain. Sure would be nice to have a real coin shop close by!

Great guys! Their team is good fun, when we meet up at shows we all grab lunch together at least once. 100% recommend them as well.

(Disclaimer: I work at a coin shop in MD and we do a lot of business with GE so I may be slightly biased)

Though I do genuinely like them

Grape, that is an interesting avatar. Double struck, wrong denomination?

To toss my opinion in the ring, I dont think I would ever buy from any mail order dealer. Buying sight unseen takes every bit of fun out of the hobby for me. Heck I even hate buying from ebay because you just never know for certain from a few photos what you can tell in person in mere moments. I like to be there to buy something, and if thats not possible, I had better at least see it first

Thanks! It is double stuck, though not on the wrong denomination.

Mail order served me well in my early years when any coin shop beyond bicycling distance was too far away. Although I tried a handful of different mail order outfits, I have to admit Littleton was the biggest help to me back then.

My LCS choices have come and gone over the years, but coin shows have been my primary coin source since 1986. I started buying coins on ebay about four years ago and have had a great experience every time. I believe the reason for my success is buying from sellers with great photos and a large amount of positive feedback.

I agree about ebay. You just have to be very careful. If it's too good to be true, it is every time. A reputable seller will also be happy to provide additional information and additional pics if you ask. Also always pay attention to their history regarding number of items sold and check all negative feedback. Multiple complaints about overgrading or cleaned coins is a big warning sign. You'll figure out pretty quick who's good to deal with and who's not.

I found a couple of coins on the Allen's website I might be interested in, but none of these have any photos.

Yes, I noticed that. Reminds me of magazine ads from when I was a kid.

I have had complete success with Frank Robinson and Bob Reis (not him recently). They are primarily dealers in world coins, and their descriptions and grading are excellent. Also, they have a good return policy. I think the descriptions and the return policy are the key to successful mail order. Frank Robinson is a bit eccentric.

How do we find you sellers on ebay?

Link towards the top of the page. Above the forum post but below the pics advertisers. "Member ebay Sales". Will ever member here be above board? No, but your chances are better.

Also... look for great pics. And ignore hype like "MS+++++" or "Fresh from a mint roll" or "Best example on ebay".

Rest in Peace

I would say stay away from a few of the dealers who advertise in coin magazines . Some of them that offers select BU coins are just 62's and 63's , don't think you will be getting any 65's or better . Stay with well known dealers , do your homework and you'll be just fine .
