Thank you and this week I am purchasing the digital microscope. I have been obsessed and full time collecting for 3 years I have thousands of coins and yes I have literally looked at all of them. As soon as I get better quality photos and connected on my computer I will start uploading my collection and in the next few months I will start getting some professionally restored and graded

. It is a proof coin not a MS coin so FS is no big deal. It is always best to remove coins from 2x2 holders before taking photos. Also, please crop and rotate photos properly before posting...thanks. John1

Definitely a proof. You can tell by the square rim of the coin. Here's a shot of my 59 proof for comparison.

I have a really stupid question. Does the star on a nickel mean anything? Does it mean it's a proof? Or error coin

The star is just part of the design. All 1938-2005 Jeff nickels have it.

So the only way to tell is if it has almost no rim then if it looks like a wire?

Beyond having higher detail, proofs will also have different surface characteristics than regular business strike coins. During this time period, most proofs are what's called "brilliant". That means that all of the surfaces are highly reflective, almost mirror-like. Some will have a "cameo" appearance where the design elements appear frosted in contrast to a mirror-like background, or fields. Business strike coins will generally have an even satin appearance. I hope that helps.
