I agree with @lcut. That earlobe took a hit rather than being doubled.

I know it looks like a contact but it really is not..
I will post some better pics..
Maybe some angles where you think it's a hit but when you scope in its not...

Most definitely not plating issues.. cent is not struck thru and it doesn't have the common plating bubbles you see in the 80s..
As for Die Deterioration.. that's like 90% "being over dramtic" of pennies but it does not exhibit Machine Die under scope..
All Leters look like good strikes..

A couple of spots of coin contact. Die polishing weakened the bow tie. Can tell for sure on the ear, but it might be a die crack? Just not seeing enough of the NW part of Abes head.

And where it looks like Die being over polish is actually micro scratches from something else,
But that's the only marks.. no heaven hits anywhere

It's weak from die polishing to remove a clash. it happens a lot on that area. The date is a target area for a clash:

The effort to remove a clash line will affect the bottom area of the die.

If you try to change the image, you need to give it a new file name. You see when you upload a picture, it saves the pic in a data base you you to use later. When you just change the image but not the name, the data base will use the file it already had on file not the new changed file.

Looks like a case of "everything looks 'pretty crazy' under enough magnification."

Sounds like it was a clash but was removed by polishing the die
