to the CCF! I'm going to have to agree with the other comments that this isn't possible. The length of the date is longer on the large date and closer to the edge. Any alignment with one digit would result in the other three being in the wrong position.

Great graphic Coop! Makes me wish these actually did exist because it would make for a very cool doubled die

I know that you guys believe that it can never happen because of the position of the date of the small date versus the large date but is it impossible? I only say this because stranger things have happened at the US mint like a 1965 Lincoln Cent struck on a silver planchet maybe intended for a Roosevelt dime one year after the mint stopped using 90% silver. Its hard enough finding a transitional error 1965 silver dime but finding a 1965 penny struck on that transitional silver planchet shouldn't exist but it does. Just a thought.

@coinlife it's not impossible at all. There is even a class of doubled dies devoted to things like this (Class III). There are examples of what you're describing for 1960 and 1970 memorial cents. No one is saying it can't happen, we're saying this absolutely is not it and that it does not exist for this year.

But what would keep someone from sneaking in a silver dime and plating it. Especially of there is only one example? We know they alter coins there, even mismatching dies/denominations. Hoping to find them in the wild. Mule coins. Miss struck coins. Mint assisted coins. This could happen: But this could not happen with out someone asisting it: The cent planchet would have to be inserted into the machine as it would be too large to happen by mistake. Another case in point: No wonder it stuck onto the die, capping it. The wrong size. Again it would have to be mint assisted in order for this to happen. So what would keep someone from sneaking in a wrong planchet?

@SamCoin I hope you weren't offended by what I wrote that was not my intention as I said I am an amateur and this is a hobby and with a little time and with the help of this community I'll be more knowledgable. Thanks again guys for all your input.
