Easily identified as tooled. Worth 5 cents.

It was found in pocket change so 5 cents is what was paid for it.. I guess the best thing to do now would be to destroy it so it. I I really appreciate all of you for sharing your knowledge. There's no telling how much of mine and other people's time I would have wasted trying to figure this out if it hadn't been for all. Hope everyone has a good day and thank you all

I wouldn't destroy it. Just keep it in a 2x2 and label it as "Altered - Not 3 Legged". Something to educate others in the future.

@T-BOP there's no reason a 3 legged Buffalo couldn't happen on any date since it's just a die polishing event.

That is true as there is a 1936 D 3 1/2 legged buffalo known but I would think most discoveries of true missing leg die polished varieties would have been attributed by now. Maybe there's another but this coin the OP has shown is deliberately altered for sure. I'd say it is now in the hobo nickel category or was tooled to deceive.

@TNG yes, 100% agree that this particular coin has been altered
