To CCF , It's a copper penny all right but not a 43-S .Pretty bad shape , just a cull worth 1¢ .

I got a neck ache trying to look at that coin up-right. I turned it around for you.. The '1' is almost obliterated, the '9' took a hit to almost turn it onto a '0', the third number most likely a '5' and the top got smashed down to the weird angle we see.

Certainly not a copper 1943-S, just a mangled coin of some other date. to the CCF!

Agree with dearborn. Just a badly mangled 1953

Agree with all above--mangled copper Lincoln cent--not a '43 S on a copper planchet. Didn't we see something similar come across this forum a few weeks ago?

Looks to be a 1953-S to me.
Amazing how many horribly damaged "1943-S" cents show up on this forum. This is at least the 2nd one in the last 2 weeks!

I saw one, one time that was a copper poor of the obverse of a obverse cent. The reverse had no design, just bumpy surface. (I've kicked myself for years not saving that image. It probably is still out there on the web somewhere?)

Quote: its highly "valuable" right? It looks like a 53-S to me as well. In this condition, it's worth the wholesale value of Wheat cents, which is about 3 cents. It's in very rough shape.

Very convenient that one of the rarest coins in the world would have a mangled date that could conveniently be a much more common coin. Almost like how irrefutable proof of UFOs and Bigfoot always seems to be captured on the worst, out-of-focus cameras...

Damage coin. Copper value, no more no less.

Soak it in some acetone so we can all see the 53. Keep looking, I'm sure there are still some out there.
