We have two different problems here:
1. "In good we trust" seem to be some add material. Could be a molding add. To see better is from side and after a good clean, I see some strange yellows color. try with acetone.
2. "R" it is a complete different thing.

Is it dished into the coin's surface or does it stand above the field? A strike through would be press into the surface. Here's a ASE with a strike through in almost the same area on an ANACS certified example.  ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

We can eliminate zinc rot or a plating blister, can't we?...  Seems to have effected the rim in those areas also. How's the rest of the rim?  |

They are both dished into the surface. I figured strike through, but am unable to figure how it happened on both sides... and the edge. Where's Mike Diamond?  Edited by suipakpaikungfu

What does the reeds on the edge look like on this area?
Weight? Over or under?

Reeds are light in this area. Weighs at normal specs.

I agree with coinhunter, the first picture shows it best, the close up actually distorts the field, not sure around the R area.
How about a picture of the entire coin obverse and does it effect the reverse?

To me it looks like a struck through debris, that has now fallen off the coin. It was there during the strike, but couldn't hold on for the full 8 seconds. (Rodeo humor) Thus the weakness of the edge and the obverse and reverse, and the weight being normal. That is what I see on your coin. Thanks for the answers. It wasn't what I expected to hear, but the adjusted my thoughts, to the correct assumption.

to me, I'd like pictures of the entire obverse and reverse to get the orientation and placement of them in relation to each other. does it "wrap around" sort of for instance? is there anthing indicating that on the reeded edge in that area?

As I have already mentioned, it does wrap around the coin, and the edge is affected. Hope these pics help.    |
