It's called a "counterstamp". Some people collect them because they are unusual others feel they are just post mint damage coins. Search here on CCF for a thread on counterstamps, you'll find a bunch of them there. to the CCF!

@kcl, first welcome to CCF. Second, this type of anonymous counterstamp is sometimes called a "maverick". For sure it is a fun find and I'm glad you are keeping it, but it is highly unlikely to find out anything about who did it or why.

Thanks everyone for your quick replies! @samcoin are you always this rude to new members asking a simple question? Your status says "Pillar of the Community." Maybe start acting like that? Appreciated the welcomes and helpful comments from the other members, thank you!

Sam didn't mean anything bad, I'm sure. We're all family here.

@kclj didn't mean to be rude, sometimes I just try to bring a little humor to posts like this. You'd be surprised how many questions we get like this asking if a coin that was clearly run over in a parking lot is a mint error

I have yet to come across one, on coins and Canada I remember seeing a few coin years I think it was on nickels counter stamped with someone's initials or something and they are listed much more expensive then the normal ones, mayb someone famous lol. I'll have to look it up again.

The addition on the obverse, flattened the reverse of the coin just opposite that area. (you can see the push out on the reverse for the zero)

@wrekkdd coins and canada is absolutely terrible in my opinion. I wouldn't trust anything they say about valuation.

It may not have been on coinsandcanada, I think it might been on a silver dollar, I have been trying to find it. Found it so is this just more miss information? The prices seem way more expensive and there is several years and styles I guess, it's JOP counterstamp. https://www.coinsandcanada.com/coin...ar-1935-1935
